They would have kept up their unreasonable physical activity. Personally, I find myself easily depressed and agitated after spending too much of my time on my phone or computer. In our modern society, we depend too much on technology and don’t enjoy the life around us like the transcendentalists did. Life would be more wise, simple, and healthy if we limited our time behind a screen.

He relies on himself and his experience to make something great of himself. Although Dwight is viewed as a geek, he has more knowledge and experience than others in The Office. This makes him different. As you watch The Office, you realize that nobody takes him seriously. Only he knows his great power of knowledge. This is the key to self-reliance and being independent. You must have confidence, experience, and knowledge to be able to live on your own.

During this time period, having slaves was a social norm, but being homosexual was not. In a way, Edward retired from society by moving to the woods. After doing so, he was not tied down to what society wanted him to be. Edward was not only a non-conformist but he also lived a simplified life, chose his intuition over reasoning in some situations, and saw the importance of nature with his ideas and decisions. Edward Mott could be considered a true transcendentalist of the 19th century.
