All these topics describe the people and how they were feeling why are the events of the Devil and Tom Walker we’re going on. It gives them a reason for why they didn’t really care about Tom Walker‘s disappearance or try to hunt for his wife. Yes he went Tom Walker went to hunt for his wife he didn’t ask anybody else for help. Everyone at the time was very quick to pull the trigger on an accusation. Anything you did that slightly made you look like a witch would probably get you accused. These are set Tom Walker to walk into the woods at night alone, which is a particularly dangerous situation.
