Question: 1. What lines from the reading resonated most with you? Why? 2. How did annotating help you notice things that you may have not noticed if you didn't annotate?

pink- The soft ash blowing in loose swirls over the blacktop.
This description helps establish a clear picture of the setting and what type of environment the characters in the story are facing.

yellow- Like the onset of some cold glaucoma dimming away the world. By using the simile "like the onset of some cold glaucoma" the writer compares the characters to the cold glaucoma dimming away thee world. It is basically stating that the characters are losing their own light.

green- He lowered the glasses and pulled down the cotton mask from his face and wiped his nose on the back of his wrist and then glassed the country again. I feel that we can somewhat relate to this quote because in the quote it says he pulled away the cotton mask from his face and in todays world we have to wear masks.

This word just describes the situation that the father and son are in perfectly. As prior to the world you could have good and bad days but ever since the incident it's like God, faith, hope, humanity even with the cannibals who have lost their humanity have become godless and now each and every day is a fight and struggle to just get to tomorrow when there was a period in time when that wasn't the case.

Going through and annotating allows to still see the big picture but will allow to see the smaller details that just by simply reading it you would not have picked on and makes the story more complex then what it is letting on in the text.

1) "each precious breath" I think the use of the word precious really emphasizes how important life is and in the father and son's case how quickly life can be taken away. It resonates with me because even though I might not be living in a post-apocalypse world, life is still very special and can be taken from you at any moment.
2) Annotating helped me really connect to the piece and understand the what the father and son's world was like. It helped me create more vivid images and dig deeper into the content.

1) "motionless" stuck with me the most because it describes how gloomy the world was for them after this apocalypse-like event. In comparison to the real world, motionless wouldn't be something you'd describe it as, which is why this word puts an emphasis on just how sorrowful their world is.
2) Annotating helped me because normally when I read I don't pay much attention to what the text means, but annotating helped me actually understand the story more in depth.

1:"The days more grey each one than what had gone before"
This quote really stuck with me because i can sort of think of it in a way of how the world is now.The world is not as bad as the story but the world in my opinion is getting worse in ways that some people may not realize.one big example would be this covid-19 pandemic, going back a few years ago this was not a worry or a thought but now it is one of the biggest problems the united states faces.
2:annotating this text helped me understand the meaning behind the writing more.Annotating also helped me think more in depth of what i was reading and it helped me develop questions.

1. What stuck with me was his strange dream. I had a lot of thoughts and questions after reading this section. It seemed kind of out of place with the rest of the passage. I thought his dream might have been a representation of his fears and problems in his world. He can see through the monster which could symbolize how he knows what issues he has and he could fix them but he doesn't. The monster walks away and ends the dream. His own monsters and fears might become to big to ignore in the future.

2. Annotating made me really hone in on all of the small details that change the meaning of the text. Usually when I read, I don't focus so much on analyzing the little details and finding the nuances. I just look for the big picture. Annotating helped me gain a better understanding of their situation being critical and difficult.

1. "Looking for any color". This quote resonated the most with me because I tend to try and make the best out of a bad situation, and that is what the Father is trying to do here, he is holding out a tiny bit of hope that maybe it's not over, because even the slightest bit of hope can be huge motivation for someone.
2. Annotating helped me notice things by making me really think about a line and what it could possibly mean. If I read this normally, I probably would not have taken away the small messages of hope and brightness hidden within. It also helped me understand the sense of urgency in the text, and the importance of even the simplest of tasks.

Especially during this past summer when everyone was out of school and all of the craziness that is going on with our lives, knowing that you have people around is the best.

2) Annotating allowed me to look at each detail to the fullest, knowing that it they are there for a reason.
