Barb wire works with an simple mechanism: it has one small string of wire that you twist up so that their is an hole in the middle than you put the hole through the wire,  Joseph Glidden figured this out but their was an problem: the spikes would slide all over the wire. He found the simple solution of twisting the wire t=so that it couldn't move.

Barb wire is good for keeping out cattle and making sure that cowboys on their horses cant trample through all of your farming land and crops.
