When they are sailing and almost reach land, Odysseus's crew gets jealous because they think that there is gold and silver inside the bag of wind. They open the bag and release a hurricane, Odysseus goes back to Aiolia and asks the king for help, but he refuses because he thinks Odysseus is cursed. Then, they find another island, however, it doesn't have and farms and seems gloomy. Two of Odysseus's men get off the ship to check it out, only to find crazy cannibal people who start ripping the crew members and eating them.

In Chapter 10, Odysseus talks about how he and his crew took many voyages, and what these adventures were like. They visited Aiolia Island where they were shown great hospitality for a month, and Odysseus was greatly given a bag full of winds from Aiolos, the wind king. When temptation plays its toll, this great gift is wasted. When Odysseus returns to this island, no one is willing to help his situation. Furthermore, when continuing traveling on sea, they encounter an island which in appearance is very odd. When encountering people, attempts are made by these cannibals to eat them, and a retreat is made.
