This quote from the Blue Man reveals to the reader that Eddie won't be staying at the Ruby Pier for his time in heaven. It shows how the pier isn't the place that makes Eddie happy or at peace. It makes the reader question what Eddie's heaven looks like. As well as wondering where Eddie will go when visiting the heavens of the four others. This also makes the reader wonder if once Eddie gets to his heaven, will he have to guide others that he has affected.

This quote reveals an important quality about heaven in the book. People are unable to look down upon the current world so they are stuck in the time period that they remember. The Blue Man suspects that the pier has changed since his death but is unable to see it. Hence, why he asks Eddie if the Whipper is still the fastest ride, when it was removed decades ago. This can also explain why the Blue Man didn't give Eddie a straight answer when he asked how long ago he died. Time in heaven is irrelevant because you can't see time progressing in the real world.

This is a nice quote from the book and it shows the way that Eddie's body has been keeping him from joy. The happiness that Eddie feels is the same as when he was a kid. The joy of running has been missed in his old age and has finally been brought back in death. This quote could teach people to enjoy their lives while they can, to run and play before they get too old. Death gave Eddie what he was missing for years of his life, pain-free time to run.

This page describes Eddie's heroic death. Eddie sacrificed his life to save the little girl when she didn't move from under the falling cart. This page raises one very important question, did Eddie save her? There is no clear answer to this question within the chapter. The chapter ends with Eddie feeling the girl's hands in his, but is she alive and mourning him or did she get crushed as well. It will likely be revealed at the end of the book by another character or the girl herself.

When Eddie was in his first heaven, he was unable to feel anything besides calmness. He is now able to feel anger towards the Captain because he is older in this heaven. It is interesting to see how each heaven makes Eddie feel how he did at that age. I think that Eddie will be the age that he died as in his final heaven and be in the same pain that he always was in.

This quote displays the strained relationship that Eddie has with his dad's friend Mickey. This could also show the negative side of Eddie and his dad's relationship. One of his dad's friends, a person that has known Eddie since childhood, makes Eddie uncomfortable when he talks to him. This could be because of the drinking that Mickey and Eddie's dad does.

The Captain explains what he believes heaven is. He thinks it's a place to reflect on your life and figure things out that you couldn't in life. This page also shows that once the Captain was done meeting his 5 people, he started waiting for Eddie. It raises the question of if Eddie will become one of the 5 people for someone else. I also wonder if the people in heaven ever get to enjoy their time there or if they have to spend all their time helping others that they've affected.

It is very interesting to see how the author portrays heaven. The person's heaven is viewed differently between them and the person visiting. Eddie was unable to see the green environment that the Captain was able to. He saw the land through war and was unable to see past it. It makes you wonder what Eddie's heaven will be.

This section has me conflicted on how I feel about Eddie's father. He was abusive and neglectful but it seems like he had his own ways of showing that he cared. He quietly showed Eddie that he was proud of him in moments. Being a drunk isn't completely his fault and Eddie learns that in the next chapter. Eddie's dad was a pretty bad father but he wasn't failure in the end.

His dad uses it as a way to escape the pain that he's endured and Eddie sees that. This also shows how Eddie's emotions evolve over time in heaven, just like they would on Earth. He is able to cry for the first time in heaven and I think this is because Eddie is gaining control over himself in heaven.
