I was walking near Broad & Belvidere when I saw this poster... I have no idea what it means, but I love the design. The decorative font looks so fancy and I love how much detail is in the capital letters. You can tell they're going for something moody. I like their slight tilt in the words to guide your eye back to the middle too!

I learned how some fonts could bring fond memories to other cultures... like my Spanish grandmother writes in cursive, and some other decorative writing she sees brings back fond memories. I think it's so neat that some fonts can bring back memories and cause emotions within you.

I saw this while passing to my GameDev class! I loved how playful it was and how they used "splat club!" in such playful and bubbly fonts. I also love how they used the squid in the top right corner to show the QR code. I like how they use plain text to describe and give you intel on what to expect, but I do wish they used something a little more playful like their title but more lowkey.

I learned how fonts can work with disabilities and dyslexia.. as someone with dyslexia there is a specific font you can use to help you read! Not sure how it works, but I also know that there are websites that you can use to check if colorblind people can see your work correctly, and among other disabilities. It's really nice to see!

This is another competition, sorry I love them. This one uses font to draw the 'AAA' down through the page. It guides your eyes from the title down to the text the man at the body is saying. I found this one to be awfully fun to look at because the more I study it the more details I catch. I think it's very expressive, and I like how they use the comic font to match the vibe!

I learned how typography has changed over the decades! Like how the olden days everything was cursive and detailed, but now everything is modern and super easy to read. Not sure I like how modern we've gotten. Before it seemed we put a lot of time into our words, but now it's easy not to.

This one is as well from the competition, but I adored how it looked. It looked like they did it with paper and pencil, the text seeming so free yet so sharp at the same time. They did so well at expressing the tensions in the text alone, that it's all I can seem to look at. I also love how they made a long line with the 'T'. I'm not sure why I like the line there, but I just love the handwriting feel of this all.

I learned more about font families, and I can say it is still very confusing. It's basically the genre of font, but it still confuses my head. I think I need to look at the font families more.

This is another winner of the Comics Contest! I loved the title! It gives a royal, older feel, but mostly what grabbed my attention was all the detail they put into the 'K' and 'Q'. I love how they made the words seem like they're imprinted on a shiner object, and how the detail in the words makes it seem like it should be a historical piece. I also liked the text at the very bottom, I know it's just their @ and where it was from, the year, etc... but it looks so clean against the background they've chosen!

I've learned lately how much we NEVER use right aligned text. We also do left aligned the most, although I swear every other country I've been to loves doing the opposite. Is this an American thing?

This was found in the library along with the ones below. I loved the way they used their fonts! It reminds me of an old movie for sure, especially the way they used the haftones and dotting. The overlapped colored text really makes it stand out too, since the rest is mostly black and white. I feel like maybe the composition needs a bit of work, it feels a little cluttered... but that may just be me.

I've learned how overlapping text hurts my brain. I tried to design a poster that overlapped two texts horizontal and vertical... but I think it's better if I didn't do that, it looks confusing.

This was in one of my drawing halls. I thought it was funny because I initially thought it was for fall break or something, turns out I'm really bad at telling what a poster means. I loved how they used the cursive word 'spring' over the bold word 'sale'. Under it I also like how the words describing more of the event have a dark background behind it. It makes it easy to see and I also appreciate that everything is centered. For some reason I like centered text more than left sided text. I learned there is something called an 'ear' in typography. It's basically the top right of the letter 'g' for example. It looks like a little ear!

It was very high up on the board :,)

This small poster was really nice to look at, I liked it's simplicity and the bold yet relaxing font. The fonts they used work hand and hand very neatly, and it being centered to the middle keeps our focus on the whole poster.

I learned about the eye testing on posters -- almost like hierarchy. There's studies that track where your eyes read first and it's VERY interesting!

I thought this one looked cool regarding the figures in the front and the text in the back. I found this one in the library on the main board. I liked how simple this one was, showing very simple colors and informing us of this campus running activity. It is a bit hard to read 'CAMPUS' but you can piece it together fairly easy. I wish the text at the bottom was a bit bigger though.

I learned more about how businesses come across with their logos and signs. Like what they put outside their shop greatly entertains the kind of people they do or don't get. A lot of it has to do with typography and design!

I LOVE this poster, it may or may not be the bird. I saw this in my drawing studio and adored it. I loved the use of the banner and how they curved the words to make it seem like they were flowing, while also keeping it legible. I also like random capital letters to the left describing what they had. Even the capitals letters font seemed to mix with the bold font at the very of the page. I really like the title though, how it has texture to it and seems almost bubbly to show how the event is welcoming and relaxed.

I learned how the way images are used can change text meaning a lot. In this instance it's good to have all of it in black and white, the style of the bird fitting the style of the text and not throwing you off in confusion. All of the poster is designed beautifully!

I recall this being in the library, I thought the large letters in the middle of the title were really funny looking from afar and it caught my attention. I don't like how the bottom text is very plain font, but I like how they rolled with the horizontal, tilted title. It reminds me of how dramatic theaters are, and I think that was exactly what they went for in that title.

I learned about how stretching letters and how they can make or break their meaning. Like the letters above having a silly meaning from how they're stretched, but some stretched letters can have different effects - like disorientation.

I like the design because it's against a clear background. The title being hung by chains is really interesting, and I like whatever filter is over it as well. It gives it an old television look. I also like that it has no colors at all, making it easy for me to look at.

I learned about how spacing effects a lot more than just the space around the words/letters, but also effects the emotions behind it. Like how spread out letters can have an empty feeling, I think that's really neat.

This is a poster I passed while walking to class one day near Broad St. Not going to lie, it confused me... but I really like it at the same time? All the writing on the cans is explaining what they'll be selling at this yard sale. It gives it a chill vibe and the date it big and bold, along with the address. I like the title font and how it's dripping downwards toward all the information. I've learned more about readability and legibility, mostly how some people put lettering over a very busy background and it's hard to see. The background doesn't have to be all clear, but it's much easier to read it when it is.

I liked the font they used for this one, and how they used all caps and still managed to express which was actually capital. The small sections are always fun and I liked how they used a type writer font to make it seem like I'm a detective actually looking for clues.

I also learned more about posters - a lot of posters seem to save an inch at the bottom for any QR codes or logos, websites, etc...

I like that it seems to be in sections. I also like how they used serifs and fonts that could remind you of something like this. Like how they aren't using a comical font, they're using one that feels like scientifics are involved. I also like that they added the date underscored, that was very helpful.

I learned about how AI sucks at trying to make posters... The colors were so nice to look at, and then I also saw the font on the title. The hierarchy may need a little work, but I really liked the design of this one! The use of fonts was so satisfying to look at.

I've learned more about the colors used in logos, and how every line matters. It's insane how one straight line can change the emotion in a logo. I like how the letters are designed specifically for this story, and how they add character to it. I like that it moves down the side of the book, and how it catches your attention. This one is also familiar, since it has the same design as one of the pictures from before, but has different art on it. I really like this one though because of the Hierarchy! It goes from top to bottom... small, large, medium, medium, small. I like how easy it is to read over it, and how the title still pops out despite all the words used.

I was messing around with fonts and mixing them together, it actually was really fun! It's crazy how a soft, swirly cursive font can blend with a strong serif.

This is another part of one of the posters seen from before! The bottom right text is one I've talked about before. This is at the Pollak building once more... I'm paying more attention to the text leading from the middle to the bottom, it isn't in english but I love how it transitions to the bottom and attracts your attention to the main title. I also like that it matches with the white stroke and black text.

I've learned about formats and their readability! Some things can be hard to read depending on their color, spacing, and more. Like if the kerning is too close, or if the text is too bold or too thin, also depending on the background color.

This is another day at the Pollak building (they have a lot of good opportunities to see nice posters). I came across this poster that was mostly in a different language, but the main text I was looking at it the one that is horizontal and slightly tilted near the right side of the page. It reminds me of the font they used in Super Smash Bro's, only because it's white stroke around the black text. It gives a very animated feeling the way it's getting bigger near the end. I learned more about font families and how to pair the fonts.

This one not only caught my eye because of the colors, but because the words at the top right. This was with my friend while we were in the Graphic Design - Pollak building.

I was looking at the way the text curved around the red lines, sitting inside them with lighter text and darker background. They're using a san serif in the english texts. I like their spacing between the texts, how they seem to make it a circle too. I've learned more about Hierarchy and how it effects what you see first. Usually the biggest text being the one you see first, while the smaller the text is the least likely you are to see it first.

Honestly cannot tell what this is. However, this was a graphic shown by a friend where we were learning about illustrations. I was looking at the top where it says "SPOT" and how the spacing between the letters caught my attention. It seemed like they wanted to take up as much space as possible, and under it is "Mevis & Van Deursen" which is in a different font. I like how bold this one is, more informational than creative...

I've learned about how to set up posters without making them look too cluttered or too open. I'm still struggling with using the right fonts and such to describe the feelings I'm trying to use.

This was a book I found in the carytown bookstore. I was looking through the graphic novels when i came across this pretty one! The positioning of the letters is so appealing to look at. How the left 'water' is a bit higher than the other 'moon'. It blends in nicely with the background and pops out fairly well. I was learning about this illustrator who created many fonts and uploaded them for free on adobe fonts... he has sadly passed, but he worked to make his work free for anyone to use.

I was really interested in this one! It was a piece hung in the art hallway and I couldn't help but stare in awe. They use different fonts from sans serif to bold and thin text... it's really interesting to see. I've learned about the difference of kerning and tracking... tracking is the spacing between the letters, whereas kerning is between two letters, not all of them.

This is an art piece made by one of my friends, the project dealt with using font to express a feeling of their choosing. They picked a more cryptic font, almost like it was a type writer that created it. Some of their letters are uppercase which makes the vibe feel more strange too. I learned that there is something called an ascending and descending line. Descending lines are like letters like 'p', and letters like 'h' are ascenders.

This was with my momma! I saw the design and text and thought it was really entertaining to look at despite the fact it's just a wipe out stick for furniture and stuff of that sort. You can't see it as well, but I liked the top left where it has a serif look and the specific font chosen reminds me of Ren Fairs, not sure why. Then there is the main text, which is tilted enough to leave space for the upper left text and leave room for the word "stick" under. I just like that little tail on the letter 'k'. It's so much creativity for just a cleaner!

I've learned that those little things at the bottom of letters is called a tail, like for Q how it has the low hanging line. No idea that had a word until now!

I was visiting the book store and noticed this book. My friends love D&D, and I also saw it was official! The use full caps words and the plain space around it really draws your attention in on it. Along with the red lettering at the top, it's very good at standing out from different books - even with the business of the characters. I've learned certain fonts give off certain feelings, like comic sans giving comedic relief, while cursive ones give a relaxing or majestic feeling. I haven't thought much of fonts and how they change context until now.

This is a store along Broad St. that I found interesting because of the tracking. The bold sans-serif is very blocky and has a playful look, but also a bit retro. I've learned the differences between sans serif and serifs - the difference being the small tails at the bottom for serif, and for sans serif it's very bland and doesn't carry much character.
