2. The US helped to increase the overall economy of the US as they started to mass-produce weapons to support the war, but even with the mass drive for capitalism there was still segregation. African Americans were facing segregation as they continued to move north and even enlist in the army. Groups consisting of black soldiers were isolated from the other white units. While African Americans were getting discriminated, women were gaining more rights. As men were being drafted and more jobs being opened, more women took on the jobs such as teaching, taking part in industrial work and other "manly" jobs.
