In fact, these Spanish missions would often act violent or aggressively to any pagan or non-Christianized idea of faith. With the Native Americans, the Spanish Missions would enforce control over their community faith to suppress the Native American beliefs they held.  

To the Spanish, the natives were treated like lost children who needed a nudge in the right direction to faith as they demeaned the natives faith as childish having to do with dream and visions from nature. Thus they punished those who practiced pagan beliefs and alienated them.

Of the aggressions committed were enforced Catholic practice (meaning no choice in the matter but to subject thyself to Catholicism), the burning of Native American idols and sacred objects or masks (to erase any and all pagan faith to break apart from the Native’s faith), and the banishing of traditional spiritual practice (to erase their culture and identity and form a new one the Spanish approved of).  

It due to these aggressions that many of the groups surrounded by the Spanish Mission's became influenced to revolt or resist against them.  With such an unfriendly demeanor all parties who became known to the Spanish Missions developed such a wary or detested by the supposed religious man of faith who only dug the name through blood of cruel actions to those who did not practice their same faith.  

So, while the Spanish missions claimed Catholicism as their ultimate faith, the atrocities that followed them like a plague affected the way every social group interacted with them via hostility or unfavorable.  

 

 Fray Junipero Serra, was the leader of the missioners who used catholic faith to persuade newcomers into their colonies. Every colony had a “chief”, which was like the governor in each designated settlement. They were all influence by Spanish soldier that were taking orders form the Spanish crown. 

Every colony was control by the church where they would convert the Indians into Catholics faith. Conversions were so important because this is how the Spanish would gather more people on their side and collect more power. 

However, the behavior of some soldiers suppresses the Indians by showing the power they had over them. Even with this untrustful actions, soldiers where not punish, rather they were protected, by decapitate the chief of the colony to send a message to all the Indians. Showing how the Spanish manage their authority in the settlements in Alto California.

The fall of the Spanish mission started to happen when the implemented two new villages of soldiers. Soon after, the Quechan rebel against them and the Spanish crown lost the two villages. Royal money and supplies were sent just before the collapsing of Alto California. 

The Indians were persuaded by religion and by the obedience of the Spanish King. The crown, manage to take over their territory with violence actions and the Catholic church by making them believe this faith.
