Good morning classmates and tutor

My suggestion for this part will be to either dig deep into France, maybe we are Spanish language teachers in an academic exchange program and we have a lot of cultural shocks regarding the culture. Or maybe to try something a lot more different. I was considering the south Korean culture, south Korea is a beautiful and complex country and culture and also very different from ours. Based on the guide an the webconference I understand that we must talk about all the most relevant and interesting aspects of the culture. Let me know what you think!

Greetings, team. My proposal for the culture to be chosen for the development of the rest of the activity would be the culture of New Zealand. This culture is a very interesting choice. It is characterized by the rich indigenous heritage of the Māori people, their traditions, art, and the later European influence. It is home to over 160 languages, reflecting the wide array of ethnic and cultural groups within the country. The primary cultural influences come from both European and Māori heritage, but there is also presence of Pacific Islanders and other immigrant communities.

Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, is considered one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. The city’s superdiversity creates both opportunities and challenges, particularly in addressing language issues. Recent discussions advocate for a national language policy to better support multilingualism, recognizing the value of languages like Te Reo Māori, endangered Pacific languages, and other community language.

My suggestion for the culture to explore is that of New Orleans, as I have had a deep interest for years in learning more about this city, its culture, and everything that surrounds it, particularly its folklore and legends.

New Orleans is a city with an impressive cultural diversity, blending Spanish, French, African, and Caribbean traditions. This mix has made the city a place rich in different cuisines, music, beliefs, and architecture.

One of the city's most important festivals, Mardi Gras, finds its roots in French Catholicism. However, it also has older influences from pagan celebrations of fertility and renewal, which the city adapted into a grand celebration with parades, music, and masquerades that showcase all the cultures present in New Orleans.

Another major festival is the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, which is considered a cultural treasure of the city. This festival attracts numerous artists and music lovers. It’s no wonder New Orleans is considered the birthplace of jazz, a genre deeply connected to the city. Jazz emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, primarily promoted by the African American communities of New Orleans, and took shape by blending elements of blues, ragtime, African music, and spirituals.

Finally, one of the things that fascinates me most about this city is its legends and how it is surrounded by stories of witches, magic, and voodoo. Voodoo in New Orleans, known as Louisiana Voodoo, is very present in the city and has its roots in African religions brought by enslaved people, later fusing with French Catholicism and Indigenous traditions.

My proposal for this part is about the country of South Korea, since in general it has several aspects that I like and that catch my attention, such as its fashion, gastronomy, music which is K-pop, which I like to listen to; I also like the series that are made there, I consider that its language stands out quite a bit and it would be good to go deeper into it since it has characteristic aspects like any other language and it would be good for us all to know a little more about what South Korea can offer us.

The most interesting part of the exercise, in my opinion, was learning how historical tradition influences present-day culture. When studying French culture, it is possible to highlight certain aspects that still feel intact. Despite the passage of time and generational changes, culture evolves but remains deeply rooted in traditions and preconceptions that shape what is considered French.

It was interesting to learn more about the culture of France, as it is remarkable that French culture and language have maintained their essence over time, despite modernity.
