I see myself as someone with global beliefs. When I went to Italy this last summer I noticed that I came back and wanted to share the things I learned with my students. I'm an English teacher and it was really interesting to see how much I can experience in life and then show them through curated curriculum. I had all of these plans and then nothing happened when it came down to it because I introduced it too early on. Maybe next year.

As an English teacher I think the job description that I have is over stepping my credential. I am literally babysitting 12 and 13 year olds at times. The school districts seem to enforce us going social emotional learning but its like blurred lines because it feels like parenting. I think that somewhere along the evolution of education social emotional learning became a thing. I fee like I just want to teach skills for the world and it seems like some of the skills that kids need should be coming from their homes and not English class. Or maybe I'm just teaching the wrong grade.

Creating systems to support my beliefs of an English teacher that children need to be nurtured. It is hard to choose the correct mindset when there are 10 students throughout the day who need this attention. It is taxing on ones mind and body.

This is something that I experience on the Daily with students in English. I know that this is something I wont be doing forever because of the self fulfilling prophecy. I truly believe that parents should be teaching their kids how to act, giving them love and attention at home, and giving them the nurturing they need. This is not what happens with my demographic and it becomes something that I have to do. I wasn't expecting to do all this when studying to be a teacher so its shocking how much I have to go through in order to not have these implicit and explicit mindsets about my students. I love them but it is a lot of work on my mind and emotions to interact with them.

so much of education and English is based on what teachers think. We have so much power yet no one really cares about what goes on within us. Well some do but most theories just assume we know how to practice self care.

You always have a white teacher who gets uncomfortable teacher a student of color, and rightfully so. There is so much tension between races, even me, a person of color raised by the dominant white group feels uncomfortable. People can't handle the perspectives of European colonialism but its so engraved, especially in literature.

Not only do the educators have clashes with the students beliefs, but the adults beliefs as well. I always think about my students and what they bring to school knowing that their parents are the ones who sent them to school.
