The message of this photo is to show that Stalin is in a good relationship with everyone, even children. Stalin is seen as a good and likeable man, that is why even children are acknowledging this to give him flowers.

1. What were Stalin's "Great Purges"?

Stalin's great purges was a time period when Stalin partook in his most ferocious acts of terror. Although not confirmed, it is believed that one of the victims of Stalin's friend turned rival, Sergey Kirov. However, it was not only political figures that faces the wrath of Stalin, over 20 million people were sent to labor camps and about half of those people died at the camps.

Stalin's great purge took place between 1934 and 1939.

Stalin used violence to carry out his terror. He had all of his rivals murdered.

Stalin took control over food production for the state by taking away many peasants' privately owned farms to build the large collective farms. In total he took about 25 million farms. Anyone that disagreed was either sent to a labor camp or was killed.
