To us, it's hard to grasp the concept of genocide, much less that people today still believe in the ideologies that the extermination of millions of people is right. In addition, it's hard to think and know that there are still genocides that are happening right now and how we don't know about it because the news doesn't deem it important to cover. For example, the genocide of the Armenian people is not accepted nor taught in our history classes. The sheer ignorance of something so atrocious astounds us.

As people that have grown up into a time where there is not as much violence, it is really hard to think of the idea of killing a certain nation. We would never wish any pain or torture on anyone. However for some people this is still something that they have to got through. Some of us believe that this doesn't happen anymore as we are a more developed nation but it still happens in some countries and we need to bring more awareness as it is very unethical.

It is still hard for us to comprehend how war can happen, especially in a society where war and killing is considered so bad. Sympathy is more common in our societies now. But it is all about who one is surrounded by. If one is surrounded by figures of authority who have wrong morals, then that person is more likely to engage in evil conduct, even if he doesn't necessarily agree with it.

What is hard for us to understand is how people so easily submitted to a new authority figure. Something we wonder about is how the results would change in specific environments. For example we would like to see the experiment conducted with a real person with a real authority figure in their life, or even more well known people that are known leaders and people you would expect to not be submissive.

What I think is really hard to grasp is that genocides still continue till today, just in different names and forms. Several terror and state-sponsored groups commit various atrocities that are brushed over as defense measures or are not mentioned in international media as a result of the alliance structure.

The challenging part of this experiment is grasping the idea of how much power authority figures can hold, even if disagreed with. This experiment opens a different perspective as to why some people did what they did during the Holocaust. The interesting idea about the Milgram experiment is that the 'teachers' did not kill the 'student', only hurt them. It would be interesting to see how the 'teachers' would react if the 'student' were to die rather than be hurt. Would the response be different?

I think the most challenging part for me to grasp is how people just listen to someone when they are telling them to harm or even kill another human being. It is also challenging to think that humans can be very easily convinced to do terrible things just because of the presence of a man in a white coat. The man in the coat did not have to constantly tell them to keep administering shocks and he did not even have to yell. They just listened to him because of his appearance. It is also challenging for me to think that at some point in their lives all of these people were taught to obey an authority figure and ask questions later.
