Since the death of Sir Charles, there was still an estate worth seven hundred thousands pounds left to it's rightful owner. Here's the thing though, multiple people think that they are the rightful owner for the estate. The Barrymore's who have been servants at Baskerville Hall seem a little distraught when they only got five hundred pounds and they have been serving there for many, many years. Jack Stapleton the oddball neighbor of the Baskervilles believes that he should get the money because he is the closest connection to the Baskervilles. Then there is Sir Henry who would end up getting most of the huge estate was the nephew of Sir Charles. But Holmes and Watson are still hired for the case to see if money had anything to do with the death of Sir Charles.

When Dr. Mortimer brought out the manuscript he explained to Holmes and Dr. Watson the story of Sir Hugo Baskerville. The story of Sir Hugo goes that he fell in love with the daughter of an yeoman. On page 20, Dr. Mortimer said, "But the young maiden, being discreet and of good repute, would ever avoid him, for she feared his evil name. So it came to pass that one Michaelmas this Hugo, with five or six of his idle and wicked companions, stole down upon the farm and carried off the maiden, he father and brother being from home, as he well knew." But the young girl found her way out and was running as far as she could away from those wicked men. But when Hugo found out that she escaped he was already drunk and made his men go out and find her in the woods, but after looking Hugo sent his hounds out to find that girl. Then when Hugo's companions found the girl and Hugo they were both dead. The girl had died from exhaustion and they found Hugo with his neck clawed out by the hounds. Since then every Baskerville was killed by a hound.
