This will be my first year as a GT teacher for Allen ISD. I have taught for nineteen years in a variety of grade levels, including high school and most recently college. As for who inspires me, I would have to say young people. I look at young adolescents as see sparks of humanity, decency, and desire to right all the wrongs in the world. Hi guys! I am a 4th grade teacher at Rains Intermediate. I am about to begin my 5th year teaching but my second year in 4th grade. What brings me joy? MY FAMILY, FRIENDS, and KIDS (students)! My husband and our 2 year old daughter are the lights of my life. We have spent a lot of time together since the pandemic began. We were both blessed to be able to work from home. Although some days were going crazy we really tried to make the best of it. I am thankful for the extra time we were able to spend together as a family that we didn't normally get. My friends. Man friends are a huge blessing. Can you guys imagine going through teaching without the support of your friends/teacher friends? I love that I have some great people to support and lift me up when I need it. Lastly, my kids! Oh how I miss my students. I had the privledge of teaching some former students last year (I had them in first grade). It was so AWESOME to see how they had grown into these little "adults" and were just blowing me away with how they had grown academically since they left me. My team makes me laugh. When a day has just been one of those days (you know what I mean) my team can come up with something that will brighten the day. Hello. My name is Angela Berrios and I teach AP World History in Irving. I am about to start year 8 and I the two best pieces of advice I constantly find myself giving to people is: 1) Leave it at work (this has been impossible during COVID and is honestly the only reason I'm tempted to return to campus currently). Two years ago I made the decision to never bring anything for work home with me and it is the BEST decision I have ever made. It does mean there are some LONG days that aren't always possible for people but I have found myself to be able to reclaim and enjoy so much more of my life without bringing home a bag to grade and suffering through it when I could be enjoying life. 2) Find time to read every day - even if it is just for 10 minutes- that YOU want to read. We read so much for work but rarely find time to read for pleasure and it is so important o keep our minds in tune with what we are curious about.
