3. How do the kinds of images the author puts in or leaves out reflect his/her style?

- the images Joyce uses shows that he is a very descriptive writer, and that his text are largely dependent on visual imagery and that his text also appeals to a audience with a large imagination

- I would describe these images as very vibrant because Stephen is very descriptive of what he sees or considers to be hell, also he uses very descriptive words that make the readers contemplate their own actions and wonder about the sins they could have committed.

5.Why did the author choose this particular image?

the author chose this image to give his readers a sense of how Stephen felt and so we could potentially try to see ourselves in Stephen shoes. also Joyce may have used this image to show how Stephen thought of the sins he himself had committed.

An initial reading of this piece of Portrait suggests that the text focuses on imagery and the author trying to show his readers what Stephen is seeing and feeling; however, whereas Joyce portrays nervousness to show how Stephen is afraid of being punished for his sins, the text also reveals an evil as the view of religion because Stephen believes that he will go to hell for not resisting his temptations, the author shows his audience multiple types of imagery to appeal to different senses so they can step in Stephens shoes and understand how he sees th decent into hell.

6.What sound devices (alliteration, assonance, consonance, repetition) does the author use, and what effect do these have on meaning?

-Joyce uses repetition in his text when talking about sin, I think he does this so that the reader can feel what Stephen was feeling and even experience the anxiety Stephen had felt due to his sins that would send him to hell.
