I show this by submitting tests, essays, and other assignments without looking stuff up and copying the work of others. I take ownership of what I did wrong and I am very honest with the community around me during school and outside of school.   • I would say the extent in which I have been able to remain connected to and feel like a part of the McCown community this year is rather narrow. I never felt as if I was part of the community since I got here only because I haven’t been able to join any clubs besides Reality Check and I really struggle to ‘branch out.’ The small connection I do have is through the trust I have been able to build with my teachers and, as stated earlier, through Reality Check.
  • Honestly, I do not know if actually have helped anyone feel like they are a part of this community because - once again - I don’t really talk to people. Today is actually the first day I have actively had a fun conversation with another person in my crew.

Along with this, I have also become much more used to asking for help. I feel comfortable asking my teachers clarifying questions that would've screwed me up for hours because of its wording (Snazzy can testify to this fact).     I'm proud of this assignment since the topic this was written about was heavy and it really spoke to me as well. I'm really proud of this essay because I think I wrote it almost perfectly and I described my feelings towards the topic. This was also one of the highest grades I got on an essay this year which is 97/100. It showed me that I have mastered learning in that class since it allowed me to write about different topics in literature fluently. It has made me also feel more comfortable in writing and more confident in the things I write.

Based on the worksheet above, my lowest scores are in citizenship and I struggle to constantly apply the skills necessary to have a perfect tally in the citizenship section. I think I am particularly struggling with the citizenship HoWL for several reasons, really. Firstly, my freshman and sophomore years have been severely interrupted due to covid and I haven't really been able to socialize or really get to know anyone - a factor which has kept me from joining clubs. Along with this, I was never really social in the first place which made making friends when I actually was in school also close to impossible. I tend to get very nervous and slip up when I have to speak in front of a larger setting which is why I tend to avoid giving presentations and such unless I am really confident in what I am about to say.     If I had to pick at least one assignment I have felt most proud of from this year, I would have to choose my Modernism project from English Term 1. This was our first big project in English this year that wasn’t an essay and it involved a lot of creativity that I just do not have when it comes to the arts. Being able to score full marks on this assignment proved to me that I can combine meaningful analysis while also making something look nice and sound dramatic. 
    The Modernism project shows I was able to master the things being taught in tenth grade English because I didn’t just write and cite, I was able to apply what I already knew about modernism to what I was learning in order to take my project that one or two steps further to place photos, art works, and even just stylistic aspects to my project that relate and enhance the subject matter.

I am a very visual and hands on learner so having to learn any sort of science from behind a screen for most of the year threw me way off kilter. For other classes, it's easier to understand a point or subject because, most of the time, they fit together or connect with each other no matter what class you are in. For example, when I was learning modernism in English, I was learning about World War One in Global, so each class kind of acted in support of each other, making it easier to grasp. For chemistry, the first part of the year was entirely independent from anything I had seen before. I had no way to connect or feel out how to balance an equation. I knew it was math but I was learning logarithmic equations in trigonometry at the time so I couldn’t find the same inter-class support I would find elsewhere. Over time, though, as classes have moved in person, I have found a way to make this connection. In chemistry, we are focusing on an environmental unit. If you don’t already know, the environment is one of my biggest special interests. Do not let that fact deceive you though, as I am good with it in a lot of aspects. It’s just certain other aspects about this HOWL that I do not typically do. One thing that has certainly gotten weaker is showing my work. In ELA and History, of course I do things like provide my reasoning for my answer, as those classes tend to not be objective (more so ELA than History). But I feel that in classes that are more objective in answers (like Geometry), I feel no need to slow myself in completing my work, and since I am not writing on paper I just do the calculations in my head or in my calculator and just type the answer down. It is worth noting that I have faced no repercussions for this. Another aspect that I sometimes ruin is doing all the work. This is usually just me not realizing that there was another page with more questions or a part of an assignment that I forgot while working.     Though I still had no idea what I was doing and to this date still do not understand this. The subject in chemistry was since changed into something that I understand better, but it is a gray area that I have never overcomed.     My response: citizenship my howl shows that i can work together with my friends, responsibility- i make sure i keep on track and stay on top of my HoWL grades. Integrity- i am able to express myself and speak my  mind on anything that i learn i am being taught how to listen and be heard.

    • Respect: i  learned in my crew to Respect others opinions, waiting my turn to talk and listening to everyone
    • Citizenship: i get along with all of my crewmates and never find it a challenge to work with them 
    • And perseverance: with teamwork everyone can get something done, during group work everyone focuses on the main topic. It has taught me a lot of information I never knew about my crewmates. Perseverance brings me together to understand how my crewmates feel on certain topics

     An academic challenge I faced this year has to be Math, I was a good math student once but things were very hard to understand. Learning with Ms. Gibbons and Ms.Lauro has helped me alot, focusing on notes and being persistent in work definitely helped. I also ask for help when I need it and they help me fully comprehend my lesson.

I have been in a crew before so I know how important and special it is to be able to become close with a group of people and share personal experiences with them. Our crew trip that we went to last year has allowed me to participate in many team building activities, so I was able to work together with my crew. I feel that I have made my other crew members feel like they have been a part of the school community by being respectful and cheering them on when they share something that is significant to them. I feel that I have always helped them when they need it.
