The Magisterial Lecture taught me how much we are interdigitated with those around us. We are who we are, and we can define ourselves from others simply because of their existence. I am me, and they are themselves. Yet despite the differences that define and separate us from others, it's inevitable that we share common factors with others. Hence, it's our interaction with those around us leading to our own life experiences, that truly reveals who we are.

I've always thought that the need to seek affirmation impedes the discovery of the "I" because instead of reflecting on the "I" in its rawest form, we are reflecting on the "I" given set conditions. However, Dra. Angeles challenged this with a good point— the "bulaga" game. Although the pursuit to discover the "I" is a journey that is only for the self, it can only be captured by the key concept of "experiences", and our own experiences are inseparable to how we interact with other people. Hence, the importance of "others" in discovering the "self".
