         <description><![CDATA[<div>John Adams was a Federalist and the Congress passed these group of laws in 1798. The Alien Act allowed the president to imprison aliens (foreigners) and The Sedition Act made it a crime to speak, write, or publish anything false or harmful about the government.  Many Federalist thought these group of laws would weaken the Republican Party instead, it hurt the Federalist Party even more.</div>]]></description>

Two important effects of the expedition were that they had collected valuable information and helped the U.S lay claim to the northern region known as Oregon.</div>]]></description>

The Treaty of Ghent was the peace treaty that ended the War of 1812 between the U.S and British. James Madison took part in this by having an opportunity to end the war and one of Madison's major reasons for war was now moot. </div>]]></description>
