Brain on Fire By Susannah Cahalan

Another interesting read is, Brain on Fire. This is a memoir written by Susannah Cahalan. In 2009 she was a healthy 24-year-old reporter for the New York Post, when she began to experience numbness, paranoia, sensitivity to light and erratic behavior. She only got worse — she began to experience seizures, hallucinations, increasingly psychotic behavior and even catatonia. Her symptoms frightened family members and baffled a series of doctors. After a month long hospital stay she finally met a Dr. who made her eventual diagnosis and planned her treatment for anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, a rare autoimmune disease that can attack the brain.

I enjoyed this quick read. Here's what a review on Goodreads said: Not since Good Grief has a book about a young widow been so poignant, funny, original, and utterly believable. A compelling debut novel about loss. Lilian Girvan has been a single mother for three years - ever since her husband died in a car accident.
