I hope we will work individually and together to create spaces and a culture that proactively celebrates and supports people from all backgrounds. 

Without intentional structures in place, all of these groups only see the dominant culture. One thing that exists in the theater community is complete acceptance  of who you are. I have theater friends who are gay, trans, and bi. Some have drag queen personas that are part of their life. These friends feel safe and at home within the community of theater people because they are valued for the skills they bring and are treated like everyone else. It would be a wonderful thing if we could create that kind of community and acceptance at school.

I never bring up the fact that I am biracial because I am simply not enough. I am not Asian enough, and I am not white enough. The survey reflected that and I think that may be true for a lot of our minority students.
