I like the book and agree with how the mystery aspect of the book makes it better, but I think it's tough to get through with the fact that too many things happen at one in the book and no one has a real personality but besides that fact I think that the book is pretty okay to read it just doesnt make much sense to me sometimes.

I like this book so far, but I have mixed feelings on Daunis. She is strong and smart but sometimes she does weird things: for example, naming the muscles she sees or reciting the periodic table. I agree that it is interesting to dive into the Ojibwe culture and struggles of having mixed heritage, as well as the complexities of substance abuse. The writing of the book is not my favorite because it is a bit cringy. Overall, I like this book but it is not a favorite.

I agree that this book is cultural and good to read if you like to read about different cultures. The book was slow, and most of the stuff that happened wasn't important, The characters were really basic and not funny either.

Hi! I agree that I liked the variety of themes and the awareness brought to more serious topics along with the interesting plot and I liked reading about the culture. That being said, I just don't really enjoy any of the characters. It's a good book, I just can't really get into it.

Firekeeper's Daughter is a good book. I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but I don't really think I was the target audience as the pacing wasn't for me. The cultural aspects where you learn about indigenous tales and stories throughout everything was so engaging, and I wish there was more! Drugs do affect minority communities significantly more than white communities and the way it was explored was interesting! At points, I had difficulty relating to Daunis' character; sometimes, I totally understand her (fellow animal nerd!), but sometimes she feels so different that it's difficult to be immersed. I've finished the entire book, and I found the ending realistic but unfulfilling. At times, it is engaging but other times it is dull.

I wish there were warnings for what we got into in the book, especially with mentions of sexual assault. It's realistic and messy, both in the good and bad ways.

I agree that the Indigenous culture discussed in this book is very enjoyable, informative, and eye-opening. I also thought that the issues brought to light, such as drug abuse and mental illness, were a nice addition to the story, and brought more awareness to those topics. I thought that Daunis was an interesting and strong character, and I liked the fact that she came from a diverse cultural background, which made her more relatable. Overall, it's a really good read, and I enjoyed following the characters as they navigate the twists and turns of their hectic lives.

I have pretty mixed feelings about this book. I haven't really enjoyed most of what we've read so far. The pacing tends to bore me, but I do really appreciate the way the author handles difficult topics, such as drug abuse, death, and complicated feelings about identity. I don't find a lot of the jokes very funny and really dislike the sexual nature of them. I don't want to hear about Jamie's boner. Daunis upsets me. She's incredibly boring and annoying. A direct quote of hers is, "I have no choice but to recite the periodic table of elements."

I kinda like this book but my only probably is because of the filler chapter and it already loses my attention to the point I was about to fall asleep also I didn't like some of the characters in it for example Daunis cause she just gets on my nerves including Call-Me-Grant

I believe that this book speaks about essential issues such as; drug abuse, racism, relationships, and losses. Personally, I think that Daunis didn't have much depth which made it more difficult to connect with her character. Also, I believe that the descriptiveness of her and Jaime's relationship was a little much, an example of this is Jaime's morning boner or her description of her body. Overall I like the story of her witnessing something traumatic and going to do something about it, I just wish that Daunis was more dimensional and that the sexual nature of the story is lessened. Daunis had so much potential to be a strong and independent woman, but instead, she was more focused on a boy, I did not appreciate that. However, I liked the way that the author handled the difficult topics and brought light to situations but didn't do it in an offensive or problematic way.

I think Firekeeper's Daughter was a compelling, interesting novel that did a good job of discussing several heavy topics at once. Many times books are unable to talk about sensitive topics, much less multiple, without being disrespectful or misrepresenting one. I personally enjoyed the character development, but I struggled with Daunis's character feeling flat or "basic" in some scenes. I did enjoy the dynamics between characters and thought it served the story well. The pacing was at times hard to follow, but portrayed the character's mind in the stressful, traumatic situation she's in well. Personally, I believe some of the descriptions of drug abuse and mental-illness could have been handled in a different manner, but from the perspective of Daunis it does make sense.

I haven't read the whole book yet, but from what I have read, I personally agree that it's a good book for pointing out discriminatory behavior, but I don't like the pacing of the book. There's no middle ground for really fast or really slow. I am not a huge fan of the book as a whole thus far, and unsure if it can redeem itself. However, it's well written... I just don't like the characters, even Daunis. Especially Daunis. And Jamie, we don't get ANY clarification on him, but it's okay. I think it's an all right book, but if I went back into time and had the choice to read this book, I would immediately scream "NO!!!" and throw it on the floor. :)

Although the majority of our class hasn't finished the book, thus far, I don't like Daunis as a character. I think she is annoying. I appreciate the author shining light on a previously neglected group of people, but I think she could have made Daunis a more dimensional character. I liked the mystery aspect of this book. I also would have liked to learn more about Jamie's real life and his backstory. Overall, I think this book was okay, it is incredibly slow, and I don't think I would recommend it, but that's just because I HATE Daunis.

I think that the Firekeeper's Daughter is a good navel. I like the mystery of the novel. It has some interesting themes such as Identity and the snuggles of justice while highlighting the impact of addictions and racism on communities. We see some challenges that the main character goes through, like being part of two different cultures and how she wanted to understand and be a part of both sides. We also got to understand what she goes through with some traumatic events and the situation with Meth and being an FBI agent for an investigation. Even dough I don’t understand everything that happens in the novel it still shows enough to where the reader can follow along with the main character and the people we meet in the novel.
