In June 2020, Brown University did a study on Inequality in Massachusetts Education and studies show that between 2003-2011 college graduation rates went up. This was a good start, but another big difference was the number of black and Hispanic people going to college compared to white shrunk from what it was before. The Papey from the Population Studies and Training center states “As states and districts consider their funding priorities, they need to redouble efforts to close racial, ethnic and socioeconomic gaps in educational outcomes.” (Papey). If Massachusetts does not start becoming more equal than we will only stray more apart

Lizzette Delgadillo, a junior at Colombia university, speaks firsthand about the struggles related to being low income in college. She refers to a website used to share experiences with financial inequality in the school anonymously, and talks about the horrible things that these people had to do in order to make enough money to get by. Websites like these are made to increase awareness of these struggles and allow for the school systems to figure out ways to better the situation they put their students in. "One student said that they've had to become, like, a sugar baby, or an escort... but to just see people post stuff like that, and say they've had to go through things like that is horrible." (Delgadillo)

Does being a certain color affect the quality of education you are taught, it seems as if today housing segregation drastically impacts the school systems. People who live in poorer areas tend to get a worse education then the people who live in richer areas. The schools with worse education systems tend to have a variety of cultures while the prominently rich neighborhoods have more white children going to the schools with more quality of an education. It seems as if all of this relates back to the Civil rights movement and how we are still having to take steps to racism in the shadows.

The pandemic has affected many school systems turning them into a remote environment. Therefore it changed the way students learnt and how teachers taught. It's hard changing in such a significant way. Mariella Murillo, who is a senior at Boston Arts Academy has shared her struggles throughout remote learning. Some of the struggles she had was nothing she could really control. She lives in a small housing area and doesn't have a proper workspace. It feels as if her class is just black profile pictures and names. There isn't any socialization with virtual learning and it impacts her greatly mentally and physically as she's also stuck on a screen for hours. To add on to that her whole family contracted COVID. It seems as if there is no learning in the education system right now but just a system.

We all know that education is important, and that we most likely need an education if we want to get a well paying job, and when people are asked what is the most important stage in schooling a decent proportion will say college as that is when you learn about how to do the job that you eventually want to do. Although their reasoning is not wrong, they themselves are wrong. It is primary education(Grades pre-k to 7th) which are the most important as not only does it set the foundation for all future education, but also is an important stage for social and mental development.
