A lot of trees have been cut down in order to build housing for the citizens to live in. There are currently many build to order (BTO) projects ongoing by the housing development board which means more trees had to be cut down. Humans has caused global warming which resulted in rising sea water levels. As more coastal areas are being developed, mangroves and seagrass meadows on Singapore's coastlines are less able to adapt by moving inland, resulting in loss of habitat. At kranji

Coastal nature park, located along singapore’s mangrove rich north western coast, nparks have been restoring the mangroves.

Climate change is progressing faster and faster as the years fly by and we still choose to not take it seriously. Singapore has lost a lot of its wilderness due to rising demand for housing developments due to Singapore's growing population. Some people try to make a change such as using reusable shopping bags, planting more trees etc. But change needs to happen on a much larger scale. Many People in the world do not care about the environment and still follow the old ways of doing things and harm the environment more. People like this need to realise that what they are doing is wrong and will impact something much larger than their convenience. This is why we must all work together to prevent climate change from getting out of hand. By embracing conservative efforts, we can work towards a much greener future.

After reading the article, i think that the world is definitely becoming warmer as well as the tides rising above many shores around the globe. This is an effect due to global warming, and the projects and attempts shown to recover degraded areas that have been somewhat affected by it are now under way in many parts of the world. An example is Singapore’s Kranji Mangroves which I find interesting as Kranji Coastal Nature Park, located along Singapore’s mangrove-rich north-western coast highlights how mangrove saplings can continue to grow from the cracks of a rock revetments wall that had only been there recently. With many of such projects get developed around the world, it helps to improve the quality of the environment around us, while reducing global warming.

I feel that the relationship between people and nature isn’t good. There is climate change and global warming happening to earth right now. It was people’s actions that caused climate change and global warming to occur. There are many things we can do to protect, preserve and restore natural habitats and species. We can recycle whatever we have used up and it can still be used for other purposes, like cardboard as an example. You could’ve used it to make something and have leftovers. Instead of throwing the leftovers, you can keep it and use it in the future if you ever need to use it, contributing in having less garbage thrown into the wasteland.

When people breathe in the polluted air, they can develop illnesses, and the toxic waste in water bodies is consumed by sea animals, which not only harms the animals, but can also harm us if we consume contaminated seafood.

Due to global warming, ice sheets and glaciers are melting, leading to rising sea levels. While cities can be protected by man-made structures, coastal habitats need the ebb and flow of the tides to thrive. Thus, we can help save them by letting the degraded ecosystems recover as healthy ecosystems are more resilient to climate changes

The relationship between humans and nature are interdependent on each other, depending on each other for various resources and needs.

in the city Freetown, Sierra Leone, there was intensive rainfall over 3 consecutive days, triggering a major landslide, causing damage to the city. To prevent future landslides, the management decided to plant 21,000 native trees by residents trained in forestry. The planting of trees help to stabilise the slopes and reduce rainfall runoff that could lead to landslides or flooding, destroying the city again.

The tree’s growth would be tracked by a community based team using “treetracker” smartphone app; a unique geotagged record created for every new tree. Locals who plant the trees can make visits to ensure the trees are growing well and document their status on the app.

In the end, 15 different species were nursed and by the end of 2020, 245,000 trees had been planted.

Both humans and nature benefitted from each other mutually through the situation. The trees now have a safe and healthy environment to grow in under the care of humans, growing strong and healthy to stabilise slopes/ reduce soil erosion. It is important that we both help and care for each other

After reading the article, I think that people’s actions can affect us and nature. For example, due to our actions of littering and polluting the sea, global warming worsened, sea level thus rises which might lead to floods, harming people and also the natural habitats. We should do our own part to help protect the environment by not littering and simply spreading awareness. Luckily, there are efforts made by groups like Npark to help degraded areas recover. Such efforts are restoring Kranji’s mangrove and turning farmland to a nature reserve. These efforts demonstrate that it is not impossible and that we should put in the effort to protect the environment. I think that if we affect nature positively through our actions, we would also impact ourselves positively.

Title: The Evolving Relationship between nature and humans in the modern world

Relationship between nature and humans has undergone significant transformation. As we navigate a rapidly urbanizing and technologically driven society, our connection with the natural world is more crucial than ever. Humans relied on nature for sustenance shelter and inspiration. Modern era has witnessed a shift toward urban living, leading to detachment from natural environment. Rapid industrialisation deforestation and pollution have strained this delicate bond raising concerns about consequences of a disengaged society. From the recent case study regarding global warming, how humans are nature coping with rising seas from Kranji to Wallasea with mentioning of coastal regions and cities flooded, affecting natural habit and how singapore development affected the society of nature.Nation and sea grass could shrink by 20% from current levels. Something known as coastal squeeze from demands of rising sea levels could be reasoned from such an underlying cause. Despite these challenges, there is a growing awareness of the importance of reconnecting with nature. Scientific studies highlight physical and mental health benefits of spending time outdoors and how significant it is for us. In conclusion, the relationship between nature and humans is at crossroads in the current world, balancing modern and conventional technological society is what we need to do.

The relationship between humans and nature is not that good. During the time of humans, the development of humans has deeply impacted nature and its wildlife. In a report last month, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change detailed how climate impacts were driving humanitarian crises, such as the spread of diseases, and food and water shortages. The report also urged countries to start adapting to climate impacts such as sea-level rise. Singapore has already lost much of its wilderness to development, however a new study has found that the nation's mangroves and seagrass meadows could shrink by 20% due to sea level rise. To prevent this, the restoration of Kranji’s mangroves at Kranji Coastal Nature Park was started. NParks moved to restore the mangrove habitats by building a gentle sloping rock revetment wall where land had dissolved into the sea. This results in a calmer condition and encourages mangrove propagules to come and re-establish themselves in between rock revetments. Three years since the intervention, the mangrove seedlings were all a result of natural regeneration.

After reading the article, i feel that humans can bring both destruction and peace to nature, and it all depends on their initiative and responsibility. If people take personal

vehicles as their main source of transportation,it will make climate change worse and contribute to air pollution. This then leads to ice sheets and icebergs melting, increasing sea levels. Increased sea levels

poses a threat to not only cities, where most people live, but also natural habitats of animals and wildlife. An example of natural habitats being affected by rising sea levels is the coastal squeeze, where natural habitats such as mangroves respond to rising sea levels by shifting landwards, and end up shrinking due to the sea walls or other developments blocking them.

There are also some human actions that help nature’s condition be calmer and benefit natural habitats. For example, a gentle sloping rock was built in mangrove habits where land had dissolved into sea. This allowed the accretion of sentiments, organic matter and encourage propagules to come and re-establish themselves in between rock revetments. Wildlife such as snails, birds and fish, then started to get comfortable in the calmer and flourishing habitat.

Due to the inconsiderate actions of humans, many bad effects have been inflicted onto the earth and humanity.

One such effect is the widespread of diseases. This massive spreading of diseases becomes more more and more common due to the polluting of multiple things. One thing that is vulnerable to pollution is water and air. In the modern age, toxic fumes are released into the air especially in heavily populated cities. As more people inhale these detrimental fumes, they start to fall sick more frequently and easily due to the impurities inhaled. The problem of water pollution is also an effect of human actions. In some places of the world, toxic wastes materials are dumped into the rivers and water bodies. Contaminating them heavily. Although this may not harm us directly, it can still harm us indirectly. For example, the fish we consume can be contaminated with copious amounts of toxic waste. Hence, when we eat the fish or food from the contaminated water bodies, we can suffer undesirable results to our health

Human activities such as burning fossil fuels generate large amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, contributing to the rise of temperatures. Symptoms of global warming include rising sea levels. Rising tides are a threat to humans as it exacerbates that effect of coastal flooding, posing a threat to people and infrastructure. However, the natural environment could also be overwhelmed by rising tides but humans are taking action to protect and restore natural habitats and wildlife. The mangroves at the Kranji Coastal Nature Park in Singapore, low-lying Rushikulya beach in India are some examples of how humans have been taking action to protect and restore natural habitats and wildlife.

Since mangroves grow in low-lying areas near the coast, they are most susceptible to rising tides and could potentially drown. They are able to sustain themselves by migrating inward. However, sea walls or other developments built to protect cities may prevent them from doing so. NParks had organised a restoration project for Singapore’s Kranji mangroves. That segment of Singapore’s shoreline had previously been eroded by wave action and threatened the mangrove habitat. By building a gentle sloping rock revetment wall, the mangroves and wildlife are able to thrive in calmer conditions and naturally re-establish themselves in between the rock revetments

Another example is The Rushikulya beach in Odisha. The beach has less steep slopes and species nesting at open beaches could be the most vulnerable to future sea-level rise. Some sea-turtle nesting habitats, including those of the olive ridleys that visit India every year, will be completely flooded by 2050. Members of the Rushikulya Sea Turtle Protection Committee (RSTPC) carried out various activities like beach cleaning, beach profiling, protecting nests and monitoring turtles. About 6.37 lakh Olive Ridley sea turtles have arrived for mass nesting at Rushikulya coast this year, setting a new record for the beach in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

Therefore, there have been actions taken by humans to protect nature from the rising tides. It is important that humans and nature are able to bring benefits to one another for a sustainable future.

The greenhouse effect of the planet is worsening and getting out of hand. Due to people being ignorant of climate change and its effects, the natural environment has to suffer, soon, the effects of global warming will affect humans too.

Plastic pollution is a serious environmental issue that has negative effects on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Here are some of the effects, plastic waste can be ingested by animals, causing starvation, internal injuries, or poisoning. Marine animals are especially vulnerable to plastic pollution because they mistake plastic for food. Some types of plastic release toxic chemicals into the environment, contaminating soil, water, and air. These chemicals can have negative impacts on ecosystem health and human health. As plastic degrades, it breaks down into tiny particles called microplastics. These microplastics can be ingesting by marine life and can enter the food chain, exposing humans to hazardous chemicals. Plastic waste left behind on beaches or in the ocean can harm marine life and destroy habitats. The accumulation of plastic waste in natural ecosystems can disrupt food webs and affect species populations.

Supermarkets in Singapore now have the practice of charging of plastic bags, which in turn encourages shopper to reuse bags.

Due to global warming and ice sheets melting, sea levels are constantly rising in all parts of the world. In singapore, a major concern is the natural habitats that are under pressure because of this. It is already worrying enough that a big part of nature has been lost due to singapore growth and development, but what’s worst is that studies found that 20% of mangroves and seagrass meadows could shrink due to the rise in sea levels. While this issue could be temporarily solved by protecting ports and cities with sea walls, some coastal habitats like mangroves are heavily reliant on the water from the tides to keep them growing. Therefore, projects to help recover those degraded areas are now in work in many parts of the world. An example is restoring Kranji’s mangroves. In about 2017, the segment of Singapore’s shoreline was severely eroded by wave action, destroying the mangroves there. In 2018, NParks decided to take action and restored the mangroves by building a gentle sloping rock revetments wall where land had dissolved into the sea. The results showed that the project was successful as the mangrove seedlings at the rock revetments could be seen. The environment there became calmer and more flourishing, encouraging the wildlife to start moving in.

The relationship between nature and man is always changing now especially due to climate change. Climate change has affected us with food and water shortages as well as many environmental changes as well. Due to melting of glaciers and rising sea levels, certain plant species such as mangroves have found the need to move more inward towards the coast but are being prevented by human intervention. They are able to negate the effects of flooding but are being hindered from moving in,and by human walls. As a result the habitats of animals have also been affected. However, RSPB worked with engineers to design islands and creeks in the area, now named Jubilee Marsh, that will provide a variety of habitats for birds, allowing them to roost at high tide and feed on the mudflats at low tide. Therefore, man and nature help each other in turn.

From the article we can tell that not only cities are being affected by climate change, but natural habitats such as mangroves are also at risk. Rising sea levels is one of the many effects that is putting cities and natural habitats at risk of coastal flooding . Usually, mangroves respond to rising sea levels by migrating landward. However, due to seawalls and other developments, it can block them and cause mangroves to shrink which results in loss of habitats. This shows us that the relationship between people and nature is quite complicated as while we are trying to protect ourselves from nature’s wrath, we are harming natural habitats in the process. One way to resolve this issue is to restore natural habitats and Kranji’s mangroves are a good example. Due to flooding of the shoreline, NParks built a rock revetment and after 3 years, flora and fauna was restored and areas behind the existing mangroves were protected to prevent coastal squeezing. I think it is an effective solution that will help preserve our natural habitats in Singapore in the long run. It is evident that Singapore’s land use planning should be more efficient, in order to avoid problem’s like coastal squeezing.

Due to the actions of humans, coastal habitats all over the world such as seagrass meadows and mangrove forests are being destroyed for development or coastal squeeze. However, efforts are being made in order to mitigate this so as to gain the benefit of nature's carbon absorption and resistance to global warming. For example, In Singapore, a rock revetment wall was made at an eroded area of land. The wall calmed waves and allowed for sediment acretion while acting as an ideal growing land for mangrove trees. This would help with the propagation and restoration of mangrove forests while guarding from rising sea levels. Another example is Wallasea island. By constructing seawalls and designing a marsh for birds, they managed to restore a bird population on the island, allowing wildlife to flourish. I believe that with time, humanity can help to mend the destruction we have caused, and eventually find a balance between nature and our own development. This can ensure our continuity coexisting with one another.

The environment is negatively affected when humans emit carbon emissions

during their day for example driving a petrol burning car or incinerating rubbish on landfills.

As a result of human activities, coastal ecosystems worldwide, such as seagrass meadows and mangrove forests, are facing destruction due to development or coastal squeeze. Nonetheless, efforts are underway to alleviate this issue, aiming to harness nature’s carbon absorption and resilience to global warming. For instance, in Singapore, a rock revetment wall was constructed in a degraded land area, calming waves and promoting sediment accumulation while providing an optimal habitat for mangrove trees. This approach aids in the propagation and restoration of mangrove forests, offering protection against rising sea levels. Similarly, at Wallasea Island, the construction of sea walls and the creation of marsh habitats for birds have successfully restored bird populations, fostering wildlife diversity. I am optimistic that over time, humanity can repair the damage we have caused and achieve a harmonious balance between nature and development, ensuring our coexistence for the future.

I think that people are doing well in what they can do in order to protect themselves and nature despite the ongoing global warming crisis. For example, Singapore was able to restore mangroves by having NParks in 2018 build a gentle sloping rock revetment wall where land had dissolved into sea, resulting in a calmer environment and allow the mangroves to settle down on their own. The flourishing habitat attracted many wildlife to move in, including animals that provided food for birds and fish. similarly, united kingdom changed a farmland to a nature reserve that provides a variety of good habitats for birds and other wildlife. In conclusion, the relationship between people and nature is important as humans play a huge role in preserving natural habitats and species and nature provides us with food, water and essential resources for our everyday life to go smoothly.

In singapore due to our land being very small and our population being large, the singaporean government has to cut down trees for space to build houses for us singaporeans to live in. However, it is not only the cutting down of trees that affect wildlife, global warming also hams the wildlife indirectly. When the temperatures rise, the icebergs melt and cause the sea levels tp rise. This rise in sea levels affect wildlife as the floors of these forests will be covered with water making it difficult for certain animals to walk about. The intergovernmental panel on climate change warned that climate impacts were driving humanitarian crisis such as food and water shortages. In 2018, NParks moved to restore the mangrove habitats by building a gentle sloping rock revetment wall where land dissolved to sea. This resulted in calmer conditions allowing the mangroves to thrive. This was what the singaporean government had done to restore kranji’s mangroves
