In turn with this, the altruistic behavior may benefit the altruist, not just the receiver. Altruism is also determined by the environment. This means that it can depend on the position of the individuals or groups in their environment. Since an adaptation is anything that allows an animal to survive, this is a perfect example. For example, if an animal sacrifices itself to a predator while trying to warn its group, then it has increased the chance of the others' survival. In some cases, like the example shown in the picture, it benefits both the altruist and the receiver. This is an example of Altruistic Behavior because some are "sacrificing" themselves for the benefit of others. Although "sacrificing" is an extreme term in this case, the monkey on the far left is not getting groomed like the other two, which is his sacrifice.
