In act 3 scene 2 Macbeth is shown to regret his actions. "Ere we will eat our meal in fear. . . these terrible dreams that shake us nightly". In this quote Macbeth states that he is afraid of what he has done. The verb fear means a feeling that you are in danger or that something unpleasant might happen, This could imply that Macbeth is scared of people finding out that he killed Duncan and the consequences that will follow it. In the 17th century if you committed treason and was caught you had to face death or imprisonment, This could be Shakespeare showing the people the terrible consequences of treason.

I agree that Macbeth regrets his decision to murder King Duncan by saying ''than on the torture of the mind to lie in restless ecstasy''. The verb torture shows that Macbeth is regretting committing treason because he will be hung drawn and quartered for what he has done.
