World Water Day took place in LA on March 22, 2022, just last year. 

2. What is the goal of your project?

We’re working as part of a design-build team to help the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power with two multi-year treatment plant projects totaling $400 million. These plants will clean up the plumes and allow the City to use a critical local water source once again. Once remediated, water from the San Fernando Valley Groundwater Basin will provide drinking water for up to 800,000 Angelenos.

4. What are the potential benefits and impact of this project?

Having more groundwater to drink and benefit from, as we are losing water day by day. Groundwater is resourceful and we don’t even think about drinking the water we see on the ground. 

5. Are there concerns or fears over this project?

Using contaminated water, such as sewer water that can be dangerous to drink. 

6. Do you believe this project will benefit the people, nature and area as a whole? (can state fears and worries if this project has major flaws etc..)

Yes, I believe this project will benefit the people by providing more resourceful water that we don’t often think about drinking right when we see it. In some parts of the world, freshwater cannot be easily accessible, such as LA, so using ground water from rain or runoff can be used and treated to be cleaned and drank.

My project is taking place in Egypt and has been up and running since 2017.

The goal of the project is to create a Green Economy Financing Facility(GEFF) which is a debt and technical assistance facility in Egypt. This facility will take part in helping businesses and supporting them to invest in more green technology in order to better harness the energy creation potential in Egypt.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is the main contributor to the project with some additional help from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The project provides renewable and more sustainable energy across the country while creating credit lines for financial institutions. These credit lines can then be used to fund projects that are contributing to the ambition of the EBRD.

There is some backlash to the project because of the mandated low energy prices, and water scarcity in the country due to climate change.

I think this project is a great thing for the people and businesses of Egypt. With the help of the EBRD and this GEFF not only can businesses in Egypt learn to invest in more green initiatives, but also the facility itself provides clean renewable energy to many people in Egypt. The backlash from some of the people of Egypt is completely understandable as well, they do not want to pay higher prices than they already do and the water shortage is already bad as it is. I think the project benefits these people overall and with their support they will better understand the possible outcomes of a more sustainable energy source.

Yes, I think it is necessary to have more ways to become energy efficient as humanity continues to progress towards technology. Even if it benefits companies and such, it is a better option to have it greenhouse friendly rather than have it possibly hazardous to the earth.

The goal is for the environment of Seychelles to adapt and develop resilience to climate change and its effects. Rises in sea level, temperature increases, weather changes, and accelerated coastal erosion are all impacts of a changing environment that can be be continued going forward.

There are three climate change professionals on this project a full time team leader based in Seychelles, and then two part-time staff

Benefits of this project include changing the climate policy framework by improving climate governance, enhancing capacity to access and monitor climate finance, and building capacity for the Ministry of Environment, Energy & Climate Change
5.Are there concerns or fears over this project? 
There are not as many concerns as one would think because at this point things can only get better for the area and the people living here. 
6.Do you believe this project will benefit the people, nature and area as a whole?
I do believe this will benefit many people in Africa making it a sustainable place to live and survive.

2)    The goal of my project is to supply all citizens of Togo with electricity by 2030. 

3)    The government of Togo runs the CIZO program, the officials contributing to the CIZO project are the government of Togo, the African Development Bank, and an investment fund from the European Union.

4)    The benefit of this program is to electrify rural areas with the wide-scale installation of solar home kits paired with pay-as-you-go systems to cover the cost. 

5)    The only concern I have found with the project is how the citizens of Togo feel about the production speed of the project. Most citizens feel that they are decades behind the rest of the world and that this point should have completed this program. The citizens have waited so long for the government to produce this cheap energy source that they have found their own ways of harnessing electricity through homemade solar systems. 

6)    I believe this program could be lifesaving in many ways. Although I agree with the citizens of Togo, they should have been caught up with the rest of the world for some time now. The program is helping electrify schools, streetlights, hospitals, homes, and water pumps. I think these are all good things, but I don’t agree with the “pay-as-you-go” aspect. The people of Togo are extremely poor, their cheapest plan starts at $90. This is not only expensive for the average citizen of Togo, but I worry that they will have their electricity confiscated if they cannot make the payments. Also, there is no language explaining what they will have to pay if the solar kit breaks. My only issue is the payment for these solar kits, these people are so poor that I think it is criminal for these people to have to pay for them… Electricity is a human right in my opinion, I think it is the government's duty to give them free solar kits and have them pay for the repairs in a “pay-as-you-go” system.

 

The project is taking place in Benin, West Africa and is occurring right now as we speak. It began in 2017 and is expected to achieve its goal around 2030. The entire country will be helped and maintained during this project. 

 

2.     What is the goal of your project?

 

The goal of this project is to supply universal access to clean drinking water by 2030 at the latest.  This will help the rural areas of the country along with the urban areas as well. 

 

3.     Who is contributing and running this project?

 

The world bank is mostly contributing the money for this project, so far they funded 250 million dollars to this great cause.

 

4.     What are the potential benefits and impact of this project?

 

Once this project is completed it will supply clean water for millions of people in Benin. Currently only 30% of people living in rural areas have access to clean water.  According to the World Bank 764,100 people will benefit from the improved sanitation services.

 

5.     Are there concerns or fears over this project?

 

As of now there aren’t any concerns over this project because they aren’t doing anything negative to the environment. Cleaning the water and supplying drinkable water will help the environment, animals, and people.

 

6.     Do you believe this project will benefit the people, nature and area as a whole?

 

I do believe this because clean water is beneficial to everyone in the country. With drinkable water the people’s hygiene will improve along with their overall health. Also the clean water supply will help the environment and animals flourish again. This project will save a lot of lives in this country, and hopefully will be implemented in other countries that don’t have clean water.

What is the goal of your project?

There are 3 goals for this project. The first is to develop a bulk water supply, second is to institute wastewater recycling, and thirdly is to improve the sustainability of the water sector.

Who is contributing and running this project?

The agencies involved are the Government of Mongolia, the Milllenium Challenge Corporation, and Stantec. Currently the project has a value of $302 million.

What are the potential benefits and impact of this project?

The benefits of of this project are as follows:
-Increasing water supply by 70 million cubic meters/year
-Increase potable water to migrant based communities
-Groundwater wells
-Pipelines
-Water purification plants
-Improve industrial wastewater management

Are there concerns or fears over this project?

There are a few concerns that follow this project. Environmental standards, social harm, and fiscal plans are the big ones. The fiscal concerns are about sustainability, resettlement requirements, and livelihood restoration plans. There are also assessments about the impact and management.

Do you believe this project will benefit the people, nature and area as a whole? (can state fears and worries if this project has major flaws etc..)

This project seems to be a very beneficial addition to the people of Mongolia. This project will help give access to clean water to communities that primarily live in yurts and caravans. There is always going to be environmental concerns with regards to building pipelines and other facilities, but I believe the pros outweigh the cons.

The project was first introduced in 2007 at the second EU-Africa Summit in Lisbon and aims to “provide a long-term, overarching framework for Africa-EU relations.” and the purpose is to build a stronger political background to organize their ability to “address global issues.” 

GOPA Consulting has been helping implement more ways to bringing awareness to the project through communication and increasing the amount of visibility there is on the project. 

The Joint Africa-EU Strategy Support Mechanism is going to benefit the relationship between continents and increase overall political awareness to give Africa a better chance at helping their people, communities, and economies. A project like this will let Africa have more of an influence on how other countries interact with them in many ways politically and economically.  

There does not seem to be any evidence of the projects making waves or causing any effects.  

Hopefully there will be a strengthening in Africa's ability to create independent change for themselves. The project is only said to be in their second stage of development and it looks like their relationships will get stronger with time and trust.
