The 5 Steps for Setting Up to Go OUT--REACH.

Some of theses points are apparent and accounted for by things we've done in the past, but are worth underscoring, as valuable for attempting in the future.

__________________________________________

1. WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO REACH?

The members of your community are individuals that have unique interests and personalities. Due to these differences, the same ministry outreach idea won’t have the same impact on everyone. To have a truly successful church outreach event, you need to narrow down and identify your target audience. This will make your outreach efforts more effective and feel more personal.

2. MARKETING YOUR EVENT

You can plan all of the church outreach ideas you want, but your church will not see growth unless members of the community actually attend. Once you have your event’s specifics planned, you’ll also need to plan how you’ll market the event. Advertising the event with flyers and signs or sharing it on your church’s website or social media accounts will help get the word out and increase the likelihood that your outreach attempt will be successful.

3. KEEP TRACK OF VOLUNTEERS

When planning an outreach event, you not only have to take into consideration all the people who will attend, but all the people who volunteer to help. Your volunteers will be able to set availability and serving preferences so you always have the best people helping with each event.

4. AFFORDING YOUR OUTREACH IDEAS

More often than not, outreach events cost a good amount of time and money. It’s always wise to think ahead and plan out some of your outreach ideas at the beginning of the year so you can budget for them. You can also use tools such as Pushpay to make your giving more predictable. Pushpay provides you with digital giving tools, as well as aggregate giving data to help you keep track of your church’s financial health and your congregation’s participation.

5. SETTING GOALS FOR YOUR EVENT

An event that goes off without a hitch is great, but if church growth is your goal, it’s not a good indicator of event success. When planning church ministry outreach, set concrete goals that can be measured against, whether that be the number of event attendees, new members acquired, or another metric. These tangible goals will allow you to better measure how successful your event was, and these insights will help your church have successful community outreach events in the future.

A lot of the content that I found for promoting growth were things that've been tried or are already in place. However, some of the things I was able to draw out speak to underscoring or dedoubling efforts in places that may've been tried including:

_______________________________

Focus on Developing a Website

A website connects with potential members, showcases beliefs, and promotes activities, offering more depth than social media. Use church-specific builders for affordable, customizable templates. It’s your digital front door, reflecting your church’s identity. Link for developer below.

reachrightstudios.com/church-website-builders

Something strong, minimal, and elegant in function that extends to church social media accounts may be the best way to go.

Leverage Social Media Platforms

Use Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to share messages, announce events, and build online community. Tailor posts—like outreach stories or Bible study invites—to attract families or seekers, encouraging members to share and grow your reach organically.

Its seems really difficult to maximize reach these days without a robust or intentional social media presence, especially for young people. And honestly IG is probably the intersection of Facebook (older users) and TikTok( Youngest Users)

Create Inter-Church Activities

Attract new members with group activities like choirs (youth, show, senior), donation drives. Promote via website, email, social media, and flyers. These strengthen ties and keep members engaged, even on a small budget with volunteers. Persistence pays off despite initial fluctuations.

Perhaps, meeting and partnering with local ministries to do something quarterly with Evangel or other local/small churches to maximize impact could be a good start.

Honorable mentions include: Email blasts, Church Newsletters (likely E-Bulletins), and Virtual Services.

All the resources I found point to getting more of the church's programming outside of the walls, in an almost equal viability between physical and virtual offerings.

ORDER OF SERVICE & MEMBER MANAGEMENT

OVERVIEW

I wasn't able to find a great deal on how churches are re-structuring/ordering the flow of in-person worship/liturgical services.

But most modern church service innovations seem to be steering the "in-person aspects" of church toward integrated digital solutions and anterior events that open the church up to a wider variety of virtually available functions and community services.

SUMMARY

The offering as a service element, has definitely gone the way of Cashapp-like services, if not "Text-to-Give" services. In an increasingly cashless society "the bucket" is being antiquated, beyond not eclipsing giving opportuniities for cash holders or less tech-savvy persons, and "coaching the youngest" in the righteous nature of giving. Beyond this, the timing/ placement/ arrangment of the offering in service seems very flexible--and a reasonable venture/experiment to place at the beginning of, rather than middle of service, per Temple examples.

This phenomena may be equally applicable to doing the announcments as well. Think pulling up the church website/ calendar, and/or social media accounts for updates, images, or events instead of black text cards...

Tracking, following, or aggregating Church membership through social media groups seems equally viable as writing names into a church roster/directory. And younger members or families may feel more comfortable, and equal or greater investment in following (being seen as a follower) or posting regularly on a church's timeline.

On the whole, the current and upcoming generation's attention span is lower and lowering. Many churches seem to be making efforts to engage the issue by shortening sermons or services lengths, or even compartmentalizing Q&A (or more interactive) segments within the service.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The post-/pandemic realization of the remote from home model is definitely pushing the evolution of modern church-going. However, the "Back to Church" shift seems to be mutating into a "Beyond the Building" framework, if viewed a certain way. Many growing churches are more "Hub than House." By that I mean pushing their central traffic through virtual and external means, using or seeing the building as a nexus for/between various communal events, while using social media as a lens through which to magnify events/participation.

The One Sunday a quarter, or even a month, strategy is definitely on brand for what many growing churches are doing. But to maximize those efforts, it seems certain techno-social/media element would need to be put in place. However, increasing social media presence will also require a moderate level of training for navigation, moderating online safety, and leveraging digital tools for maximum impact.

The central idea here is to bring to Church the homier aspects of daily living. To create a space where the people want to be at any given time of day doing social, educational, or edifying activities they may enjoy doing at home in the church's space.

The idea is to create a space that's conducive to fellowship, by combining preferred activities and interests within a amicable and comfortable setting, where "life and fellowship" could flow organically into worship/service(s).

"Showing up is easy, when you're already there."

Potential Ideas:

Open Prayer Rooms

Cooking/Lessons

Food Drive/Delivery

PC Literacy/Basics

AI/ Code Camp/Jams

Music Lessons

Bible Studies

Game/Movie Night

Parent/Spouse Date Nights

Bible Discussions (Topical)

Praxis/ Realtor/ Certificate Studies

Etc...

WORKSHOPS & WORKSPACES

The former is an educational event with a program, dedicated time slots, spaces, and an expected number of people.

The latter is an open area, fit for specialized activities, and hosting as many people that resources and safety allow.

Ideally, Workspaces could beget Workshops.
