This film is based on George Orwell's 1945 book, Animal Farm. John Stephenson directed this live-action and puppetry movie. This film is not exactly like book-- it has very many dissimilarities. This also isn't the most recent remake of this book, but it still give a good main idea of what the book and the theme of the book is about.

This movie still includes all of the animals mentioned, did a good representation of the humans of the book, and had a lot of the same lines word-for-word.

Summery:

Animal farm is a dystopian book about a society or

community were all animals went equality-- especially the Manor Farm. These animals want a utopian (perfect, no mistakes) society, and freedom. Mr. Jones owned this farm, and he was an alcoholic. The Pigs in the farm are in charge and are the highest form of "branch" of this farm. Old Major was the oldest pig, and was in control of everything and everyone. He told the farm that he was getting old and would die off soon, so he gave specific instructions for the farm when he is gone. Three nights later, the Major died. Since the Major was gone, they were inspired to take over Mr. Jones and the farm. Once they did, they renamed the farm, "Animal Farm". They Then made these seven commandments:

" 1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.

Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.

No animal shall wear clothes.

No animal shall sleep in a bed.

No animal shall drink alcohol.

No animal shall kill any other animal.

All animals are equal. "

(Orwell, 24-25)

They followed these rules. Napolean and Snowball were the two boars on the farm, and they constantly argued. They both wanted to lead the farm, but Napolean wanted to lead it by himself so he used the dogs in the barn to chase him away. Napolean then started to blame outrageous things on Snowball so others will hate him too. This continued for a long time while they work hard at the farm to make windmills, even though they kept getting destroyed. Napolean became like a tyrant and started changing the seven commandments, and killing off the animals who didn't listen. At the end, the animals slowly started becoming almost human-like as they got older when the worked. Then slowly just kept violating those commandments until they become friends with animals again.

Fahrenheit 451 is another dystopian book where everyone in this society wants everyone to be equal no matter what. The main character, Guy Montag, is a firefighter. However, firefighters in this society are not your normal firefighters-- instead of putting out fires, they're the ones who causes them. This society believes that books are horrible for them. This do not benefit anyone and it makes everything unequal. So, these "firefighters" set books on fire, so everyone will be equal. After being a firefighter for a while, Montag starts to rethink how this society really is, especially after meeting a girl named Clarisse. After his first, and last, interaction with her, everything in his life started changing. He witnessed a women refusing to leave her books when they were already burning, and he was then asking himself why books are so important to her that she rather die with them instead of just leaving them to burn? Montag decides to steal a book, that happens to be a Bible, from the lady's house who he had burned. His captain, Beatty, saw this and told him to burn it himself to learn a lesson. He burns it, then kills Beatty. Along with Beatty gone, his wife, Mildred also had left him a little earlier. Montag got scared and started running, even after he's getting chased by the police, and have been attacked several times. He ends up finding people like him, and talks to them about everything and they agree and run away while the city he lived in started up In flames after being bombed.

Between these two books, I think they're really similar.

Murder

In animal farm, these animals were to follow the Seven Commandments that were made for them by their leaders. If they weren't to follow them, they would be killed. The also had the battle of the windmill, and the battle of the cowshed. Where both resulted in either humans or animals dying.

Theme: Greed, Corruption of Power, the idea of "Revolution" or "War"

Explanation: In this book we see the idea of "Revolution" with seeing these animals in the Manor Farm get angry at the humans and with each other. We especially see this with Napolean-- He acts out of control when others don't listen to him or the rules he has set for the farm. This is where the idea of Corruption of Power and Greed takes place. We also see that after the Old Major dies, both Napolean and Snowball want to step up and be in charge of the farm. Napolean wanted it so bad to himself that he had the dogs that he trained in the barn chase Snowball out of there, and made sure he never came back. Napolean became a tyrant, and started killing off everyone who disobeys his wishes and don't follow the commandments, which is ironic because he does not follow most of them himself.

Textual evidence: "The three hens who had been the ringleaders in the attempted rebellion over the eggs now came forward and stated that Snowball had appeared to them in a dream and incited them to disobey Napolean's orders. They, too, were slaughtered." (Orwell, 84)
