Adventure tourism 

Have you ever dreamed of climbing cliffs and after that having the coolest guided tour through the jungle? Then adventure tourism is perfect for you! But is this kind of tourism sustainable and what kind of perks does it have? 

 

One of the main advantages is that it creates jobs in places where normally there wouldn’t be any, for you need people to guide the tourists through the pristine areas, etc. 

 

“Not really green” is one of the complaints people have on this kind of tourism. Since a lot of activities like jet-boating or wild hunting is seen as adventure tourism. The first is polluting our air, while the latter is pure cruel and disturbing nature.

Since a few years, Luxembourg is turning its capital city in a well-known Chinese destination. Places, like the old Adolf Bridge with the ‘golden lady’ statue and the famous head office of the Luxemburgish bank are always captured on camera by Chinese tourists. Vast number of busses drop off groups, who after the picture session head to the shopping streets of the capital. High spending power by locals and tourists is shown since around 3 years ago shops like Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Chanel have been opened. Known as a wealthy economy, the economy and the outbound trips increases significantly and constantly. The city has recognized that the Chinese traveler is the biggest target group, by catering and satisfying the Chinese tourist there is a chance in turning this particular target group in customers of long-standing.

To sum up, volunteering result in Voluntourism when it is done in short term and people are distributed repeating tasks that aren’t worth the short time spend. This is why well-prepared volunteering in long term and people being involved in tasks based on their capacity are most likely beneficial to local people and worth the money spend on volunteering.
