I will be honest, I really didn't think Curley's wife would be gone just like that; I thought she would have more of a story but I should have known better since she doesn't even have a name. It happened so unexpectedly that I wasn't prepared for it. I was expecting something between Lennie and Curley's wife that would lead to Lennie and Curley fighting again. I feel sad for both Lennie and the wife. Lennie never meant any harm; he just likes to feel soft things. Curley's wife finally had someone to talk to after being lonely for some time, but that ended all too quickly. The end of the chapter came way too quick; I am nervous but ready to finish this book and see how it all ends.

Chapter 5 really surprised me. I didn't expect Lennie to kill Curley's wife. I guess I had assumed that her and Lennie would have an issue that led to Curley killing him, but I didn't think that it would be because Lennie snapped her neck. I thought that they would just be talking and Curley was gonna start something because he saw them together. I feel horrible for her because she was finally able to talk to someone and get her problems off her chest. And finally I feel horrible for George. As of right now he has to go watch someone that is like a brother to him get shot. This chapter left me equally terrified and intrigued for the ending of the book.

I was shocked, because I was expecting something different to happen. Once I started reading about Lennie touching her hair, I kinda guessed what was going to happen next, but I didn't expect it to end with Curley's wife dead. I was also sad for Lennie, because I know he would never intentionally want to hurt anybody, so when I read about his puppy dying along with Curley's wife, I was sad for him. When Curley's wife started talking to Lennie it was actually nice, because most people on the farm would think of her as a "tramp" but in reality she was just lonely and missed what she could have had. Along with the ending, it's frustrating to stop at a point like this, because you're just wondering what's going to happen next, and if Curley is going to kill Lennie for what he did.

I was surprised with this chapter, and with Lennie killing Curley's wife. I wasn't sure what would happen in this chapter, but I didn't think that it would be that. It reminded me of when Lennie touched the girl in Weed's dress, because he didn't understand that when she was yelling stop, he needed to stop. I feel bad for Lennie because he didn't mean to kill her, and I also feel bad for George having to go with the group who wants to kill Lennie. I think that what happened makes sense though, since in the poem we read a big part of it was that plans don't always work out, and now Lennie and George's plan to get the farm and raise rabbits likely won't work out.

Honestly, what surprised me the most in this chapter was George and Candy's reactions. I had a feeling sooner or later Lennie would slip up and loose control. What I did not expect was George to go help find him with the other men. And also, Candy has not known Lennie that long so I figured he would hate him for this. Instead, he sat next to the lifeless body and felt empathy for Lennie.

I think its pretty unanimous that no one expected curlys wife to die just like that. I didn't expect her to die let alone so suddenly. However i did expect lenny to mess up somehow in a more drastic way. The whole book up until this point there are absolutes like "If you mess up we wont get the farm" and "Lenny couldn't never hurt anyone" phrases like that hinted to an event occuring that would prove them wrong. After reading the chapter i felt sad for all of the characters involved except curley's wife. In a way she went to lennie to talk out her problems and worries and lennie literally got rid of all her problems.

I thought that the big problem with George's rules was that Lennie didn't follow would be was no to tell anyone about the future farm. I thought that because Candy, Crooks, and the wife knew about it that Curley would find out (the wife would tell him as revenge for something), and then Lennie and George would have to fight and/or run. So I am surprised that he killed her and I guess the other thing was a red herring of sorts. HOW MUCH MUSCLE DOES HE HAVE?!?! I am gonna be so mad if George kills Lennie. Because of that quote earlier from Candy about how he should have shot his own dog. I felt really bad for Curley's wife too.

It was surprising yet very predictable at the same time. The puppy's death was predicted, the anger at Lennie was predicted, and once Curley's wife talked about her soft hair, I knew something horrible was coming. It's so hard to read about it knowing it could have been easily avoided. If Lennie hadn't grabbed on and if Curley's wife would have calmed down and stopped screaming it wouldn't have ended with her death.
I'm sad that their perfect little farm will never come to pass but the best-made plans of mice and men often go awry.

I could not help but laugh. The amount of foreshadowing that built up to this with Lennie being capable of killing from a mouse to a puppy should have prompted me to think an accident with a human murder could occur, but I did not imagine that Curley's wife would let the same guy who crush her husband's hand touch her hair. I knew something would happen with the wife, but I predicted she would frame Lennie for the sake of crushing his dream of getting the land. However as soon as she told Lennie to touch her hair, I knew exactly what was coming, and it led to a train wreck that made for quite the grotesque laugh on my part. This chapter also made me realize a commonality between all the characters and their fleeting ambitions, which heavily relates to the poem of the unsuccessful mouse and the similarity with human failure.

I was super surprised with how this chapter turned out. I never would have guessed that Lennie would kill Curley's wife. Lennie didn't show enough self control to stop himself from hurting Curley's wife and it cost her her life. I feel bad for Lennie because he feels the need to run off because he doesn't want George or the other men to be upset with him. I'm also shocked that George didn't do more to try and stop the men from trying to shoot Lennie. I am both excited and nervous to see how the book ends.

While it was all happening, I was waiting for Lennie to stop, and when he never did I knew what happened next would not be good. The whole thing did not shock my a ton because I knew something bad was going to happen with Lennie at some point, but the fact that he had killed Curley’s wife was shocking. When Candy and George were talking, Candy was disappointed that they may never have their ranch. On top of the sadness of Curley’s wife dying, this really got to me too when Candy started to cry. It shows how much he was hoping to get out of the ranch and work on their own land. He blames Curley’s wife for messing up their plans, and he says that he knew she would mess something up eventually. I’m also worried for what is going to happen to Lennie. I know that given the chance, any of the men, especially Curley, White, and Carlson, will short Lennie. The whole situation is heartbreaking to see how out of control Lennie could become.

FIRST OFF, HOW STRONG DOES HE HAVE TO BE AND HOW DUMB DOES HE HAVE TO BE TO ACTUALLY ACCIDENTALLY KILL SOMEONE BY BREAKING THEIR NECK. No hate tho I love Lennie. Also, I'm surprised on how George and Candy reacted. There's literally a dead body of a woman with a broken neck laying on the barn floor, and I praise George for touching a corpse. Oh, and rest peace Lennie. His innocent stupidity brought me true bliss; he was my favorite character T_T

Wow. I predicted that Lennie's puppy was going to die. And I knew that something with Curley's wife would get Lennie in trouble, but I had no idea that she would die. I'm upset about the character arc of Curley's wife. At first I thought it was going somewhere when she talked about her dreams. It made me empathize for her and truly think that some of her actions were validated. Then, when she continued to lure Lennie to touch her hair... knowing that he's an innocent, nice guy who also has the capability to crush the bones of one's hand? That was such a jerk move, and I would agree with anyone who claims it was mostly the wife's fault for her own death. Sure, I can understand wanting some attention with a husband like Curley. That is completely fine. Except, she asked someone who had just told her how much he loved to pet things and how he accidentally killed his dog! What would she expect? She stepped into that barn with the sole intention of causing trouble. Next, when Candy and George find the girl dead, I actually admire how calm and collected they were. The emotions whirling through their heads must have been insane. It takes a lot to push emotions aside and take inventory of the situation, trying to be intelligent about it and make the next right move. Okay sorry this was more than 2 or 3 sentences, haha.

I accidently spoiled the story for myself yesterday when I was searching up Curley's wife's name, something that has not been mentioned at all. I knew that Lennie would kill the pup and snap her neck but still it was still heartbreaking to me. What saddened me was the fact that it wasn't something he could control. His sheer innocence and ignorance of the world has painted a black and white picture for him where the end result always circles back to whether he gets to take care of the rabbits or not. None of his actions have a consequence to him besides whether they would be seen as "bad" in George's eyes. The circumstances he has to deal with, the hand that he been dealt is such an impossible combination. He does not have the intelligence to understand or control his actions and any result is magnified 10 times due to his strength. At the same time however, I cannot place blame on Curley's wife. She's been locked away from everyone else because she chose to marry Curley, a desperate decision to escape her controlling. She had had so many opportunities in life, so much potential to live the life of her dreams but instead, she had trapped herself in a situation where no one even dared to speak to her because of the man she had married. She was seeking someone to open up to, to explain her situation and unfortunately, the only option was Lennie. It was just so sad to see the perfect life that they were so close to achieving slip away because of something Lennie could not control.

Let me tell you, that was not what I was expecting to read. Obviously a lot just happened in the reading, solely focused on the death of Curley's wife. I didn't think anything bad was going to happen until he started playing with her hair, then I knew. One thing that stuck out to me was what Candy said to her after she had died. He simply leaned over her and said "Everybody knew you would mess things up. You were no good. You're not good now, you're a lousy tart." This was shocking to me because rather than blaming Lennie for killing her, he put the blame on her because she was always hanging around them and seemed to be asking for trouble. He then goes on to sing a song about the life he could have had but he thinks it's all ruined. I expected the plot twist, however when I read it, I was still surprised.

I was wrong, but thinking about it it makes sense because the author did a good job leading up to it telling us that Lennie killed mice and then a dog, and now a person. I was surprised by how Curley reacted when he found out. I guess I thought he might be a little more concerned about his wife than shooting the killer.

I did think it was a red flag when Lennie mentioned he killed every soft living thing he has touched. Thats when Curly's wife should have ran. The whole thing was tragic but I'm still hung up on the fact he chucked the dead puppy across the room.
