The case involved the violent assault, rape, and sodomy of Trisha Meili, a female jogger, in New York City's Central Park, on April 19, 1989. The documentary provides background, interviews, expert analysis, and details of associated facts related to the case and the conviction of five suspects. It presents analysis to suggest that the police should have connected Matias Reyes, who eventually confessed to the crime, to the case at the time that it happened.

I believe the newspaper and televisions media blew this case out of proportion with reasoning that the five boys were of latino and black race and that a white woman was harmed. Creating such a scene caused chaos among the community and allowed so much hatred between races rise. While this case was going on there was a white man murdering and raping women and of course there was no media coverage on this because there was no racial excitement.

Unknown Jogger

Until she decided to write a book and expose her true identity, Trisha Meili was the unknown jogger attacked. In all the time this case was dragged along, I feel she was forgotten. Not that the five boys were not victims, but the TRUE victim was in a coma and when she came out of it, had to learn to walk again. She barley survived and I don't think she got as much respect and recognition for that not only from her community, but from her detectives handling her case.

The detectives has ZERO evidence on the five boys. Not one piece. This case was dragged out over two years and ended with prison sentences for all five boys. How was this even possible? Was our community in that courtroom that stupid? The recorded confession tapes are clearly not all the same facts, forced and full of lost emotion.
