I think he is somewhat guilty because in (Hurst 430) it says "...so I began to make plans to kill him by smothering him with a pillow". That's the guilty part. But I don't believe that he was going to do it because I don't think that he would kill his own brother. For his on good. He also was pushing doodle to the limit and wasn't listening to doodle about what he can and can't do. But i don't think his intinion was to hurt doodle by teaching how to walk.

The brother is somewhat guilty because he was the one that kept letting Doodle come with him. When he was doing things that could be dangerous for Doodle like how he would disobey what the doctor said. The doctor said "...he mustn't get...to tired.." (Hurst 431) and every time they went out trying to get Doodle to walk he was making him tired witch contributed to Doodle needing his brothers help during the storm. But at the same time they are kids.

I think that the brother is guilty because he was responsible for Doodle and he left him behind. In the text it says,¨The faster i walked, the faster he walked, so I began to run.¨ This shows that brother was trying to avoid Doodle and that its his fault for leaving him in the rain. Brother knew that Doodle couldn´t catch up yet still ran anyways. Before Doodle dies he cries out ¨Brother, Brother, don´t leave me! Don´t leave me.¨ Even though Brother aknowlaged that Doodle was struggling, Brother still ran kept running.

I honestly believe he is innocent because as life goes on he start to realize he bond with his brother. He stated´´Doodle and I spent lots of time thinking about our future´´( Hurst 434) He started to think what life would be like when we are all grown up. Yes, he did say¨
I was embarrassed at having a brother of that age who couldn't walk, so I set out to teach him.¨ (Hurst 432) but when he realized he was wrong for say that and started crying because know one really knew why he taught him how to walk and run. Its like he wanted to take it back When they were also out teach doodle how to walk the brother´´ ….when he fell, I grabbed him in my arm and hugged him ´´( Hurst 433) he didn´t just let he fell he was holding him like he was fragile. I think the brother didn´t intentional tried to kill him further down in the story.

I believe that Brother is innocent because deep down he didn't really mean for Doodle to die. On page 430 Brother says "... he smiled. He's all there ! He's all there!" This and many more quotes from the story led me to believe that Brother was innocent. Another quote to back up my decision would be at the end of the story on page 441, Brother says " I began to weep, and the tear-blurred vision in red before me looked very familiar." This quote leads me to believe that Brother cared for Doodle and wished he would've helped him. The last quote I have chosen above many others would be " I screamed above the pounding storm and threw my body to the Earth above his." This quote pushed to me the realization that Brother never wanted Doodle to die or mean for him to die. With Brother being young too, he also wouldn't be able to know the limits of Doodle.

He is making Doodle do these things when he might not want to, and the doctors said he shouldn't be able to do these things. I think he can be innocent and guilty. On page 430 Brother says " ...So I began to make plans to kill him by smothering him with my pillow." This could be read and be seen as Brother being guilty. Brother is 12 years old so I don't think he knew what would happen to Doodle

He also left Doodle alone in the storm, even though he knew Doodle was crying. This caused his death. In the text, it states "I ran as fast as I could, leaving him behind.". This was found on page 441. Although he did stop to wait on Doodle, he still knew Doodle couldn't run well, and left him behind in the rain. Along with this, Brother was already making plans to kill Doodle. The text states "I began to make plans to kill him." This was found on page 430.

At the end of the story brother is teaching doodle how to row a boat when a storm emerges. brother hops out of the boat and leaves doodle behind, as an effect doodle dies from the storm. the reason i think he is somewhat guilty,is because he's a kid and he was scared from the storm so he didn't know any better. But i still think he is guilty because he thought about himself first instead of helping doodle, doodle was even crying to him not to leave him behind and brother kept running.

Brother is not guilty of doodles death, The reason behind this are Brother is 12 a child himself. I know someone might say "brother always took care of doodle" but not during situations like what was going on. Their parents are guilty for his death. Also I know brother left doddle, but again doodle is also a child and if doodle would have listened he would be okay. I also know many people might bring up the fact that brother threatened to kill doodle once before but he didn't mean it, its his own brother he wouldn't do that to him, also if he really meant it he wouldn't have been so upset or crying because doodle was dead and if he didn't care because he wouldn't have taught how to do so many things and throughout the story he grew onto his brother and bonded with him and truly cared

I think that brother is partially to blame, but not 100% at fault for doodle's death. In the story, at first brother is kind of cautious around doodle, and even thinks about killing him, "...so I began to make plans to kill him by smothering him with a pillow." (Hurst 431). As the story progresses, brother starts to take a liking for doodle, and even shows him his favorite place, "...so I dragged him across the burning cotton field to show him the only beauty I knew, Old Woman Swamp." (Hurst 431). Brother really did care for Doodle, he just didn't know how to convey it right. He was also young and didn't realize that trying to help Doodle better himself would tire him out in the long run and make his life harder. Going back to the fact that he is at least somewhat guilty, brother leaves Doodle alone, fallen down, in the middle of a bad storm to die. " I ran as fast as I could, leaving him far behind with a wall of rain dividing us. The drops stung my face like nettles, and the wind flared the wet glistening leaves of the bordering trees. Soon I could hear his voice no more." (Hurst 441).

I think Brother is Guilty, but on other hand I think that he's innocent. Yes, Brother left Doodle in the storm, but he didn't know that Doodle was hurt or stuck. He just thought that Doodle would catch up. The text says "...so i began plans to kill him with a pillow" That says Brother doesn't really care about Doodle and doesn't care if he dies, but I don't think Brother was serious. I don't think Brother wants to kill him or hurt him because the text says, "...he smiled. He's all there! He's all there!". Also at the end the text says, "I began to weep, and the tear-blurred vision in red before me looking very familiar". So I think he's Somewhat Guilty because Brother was only 12 so he's little so he just tried to run from the storm, but he shouldn't of left his brother to die in the first place.

Personally I believe that Brother is somewhat guilty because he was old enough to know how fragile Doodle is. In the text it says " I ran as fast as I could, leaving him far behind "( Hurst 441 ). This shows that he left him in the rain after Doodle clearly told him to not leave him behind. Yes it may not have been Brother's intention of hurting him, but he should have known better considering he has an illness.

I think that the brother is guilty. I say he is guilty because ever since the beginning of the story he would call Doodle a disappointment (Hurst 428) and would say very vulgar things about him or to him. He also left him behind to die, the brother only cared about himself and what made him look better. He also even said he made plans to kill him once by smothering him with a pillow (Hurst 430).

The reason I believe he's mostly guilty and only somewhat innocent is because he shouldn't have left him in the first place at all. Right before running he was already over working Doodle to a point he couldn't handle so he's guilty for that. He's still innocent because in the past when Brother constantly overworked Doodle, Doodle did his best to push through it and deal with it. Since Brother is still a kid he assumed it would be just like the past and he'd deal with it. Brother is still mostly guilty because Doodle was only six he should've realized he needed to help him.

I think that the brother is guilty because brother was avoiding doodle but not to leave him to teach him in the text it says "The faster I walked the faster he walked, so I began began to run", but at the same time it says that doodle was his pride and wouldnt want that taken from him. AT the same time brother ran from doodle in the rain knowing he had had an illness.
