Since the government policies provided political and business independence, "the wealthy took vast amounts of capital out of the country. This created am economic crisis" (Doc A). Nationalists did not want to share the same values as the Popular Front, so the wealthy decided not to be apart of the government's financial status. This lead to strikes caused by workers demanding higher wages because the economic crisis forced other prices to rise. Considering that President Antonio Salazar of Portugal took Nationalists' side, "[he] feared that if the Republicans won the war his authoritarian government would be under threat" (Doc A). Antonio Salazar helped by arresting supporters of the Popular Front, while also blocking Portuguese territory from Republicans. As a result, Nationalists were more justified because they promoted by the wealthy, which could build a better economic government. More citizens trusted their ways of handling a government better than the Popular Front.

The nations who supported the Nationalist were more justified in their support than those nations who supported the Republicans. The Nationalist were Germans and Italians, while Republicans. The Spanish Civil War consisted of these two different side. Many men that joined the Nationalist believed that "Spanish people who don't know the difference between Communism and rheumatic" must be helped (Brilly 1937). Which is why an "estimate [of] 4,660 and 19,000 men joined the nationalist forces" (Simkin 2014). Feeling bad that the spanish needs help winning what was rightfully theirs mades many soldiers reconsidered who the were fighting for.

Nations that supported Republicans were more justified than nations that supported Nationalists because communism was more favored in this area than the Nationalists ideas. Bill Bailey explained to his mother that communism, "gave meaning to their life. But a bunch of bullies decided to crush this wonderful thing" (Doc D). Communism appealed to a lot of people because it gave middle-class people the same things as richer people. So when a group of Nationalists tried to take away this opportunity people were swayed to one side to fight for what they wanted. They also were more justified because they knew that Franco was not for the people. The people of Spain were shocked that Franco used, "... troops against Spanish civilians as if they were a foreign enemy" (Doc D). People are not willing to follow a leader that treats its own natives like enemies. People wanted a society where they could benefit and they saw that communism was a logical solution and that Franco would have done nothing that would have benefitted them.

The nations who supported the Republicans were more justified in their support because Republicans wanted the best for their people. Many British citizens were willing to volunteer to fight with the Republicans because “of their growing alienation from a society that had failed miserably to meet the needs of so many people” (Docs. C & D). The Conservative Government forbade citizens from volunteering but many were able to leave the country and volunteer anyway. Many citizens were workers who were a part of trade unions and had a deep repugnance towards the persecution of individuals and fascism. In order to help the Republicans advance, they had to defeat Franco since his main help was “in machines-aircraft and tanks…[because] he had nothing beyond a few obsolete machines” (Docs. C & D). Russian tanks began to arrive at the end of July whereas the first round of German tanks arrived in September. Russian tanks were heavier but heavily armed, with their weaponry, they were able to capture many soldiers. Altogether, nations that supported the Republicans were more justified because they were fighting for their people.

Franco kept a war diary where in 1922 it, "lovingly describes Moroccan villages destroyed and having their defenders decapitated" (Preston). Franco enjoyed humiliating his captives and supported the decapitation of his enemies. His troops would return from raids carrying severed heads of inhabitants. His very tactics relied on a, "programme of terror and extermination [and] was central to their planning" (Preston). Franco used terror and fear as a way to control the urban and rural classes because of their large numbers. His troops left a trail of death in their wake during their march to the capital.

The nations who supported the Republicans were justified because the Nationalists who were on Franco's side's reasoning for the mass slaughter was "based on the need to justify the military coup against the democratically elected government" (Preston 519-520). The Nationalists were killing the people of Spain because they believed they were cleansing their society justifying their beliefs with the Jewish-Bolshevik-Masonic conspiracy. The Nationalists painted an untrue portrayal of the Republicans by "collaborat[ing with the Catholic Church] to publicize and exaggerate atrocities in the Republican zone" (Preston 519-520). The Nationalists gained the support of their people by portraying their opponent as barbaric and violent so the people of Spain would accept the slaughter of the Jewish-Bolshevik-Masonic people of their country. The people began viewing the Republicans as evil people as "the Franco regime made a powerfully sustained attempt to brainwash its population" while "the atrocities...committed by the rebels" were encouraged by the government and highly viewed statuses (Preston 519-520). The Republicans, through all of this fought for "the need of organization and order in civilian life" disproving the picture painted by the Nationalists (Alexander). The Republicans were fighting against the Nationalists not to stop a better world, according to the Nationalists, but for a safer one where they believed they could get to without having to kill people and cleanse themselves of things and people and their beliefs /////// which some people thought were wrong while to others made perfect sense. {the nationalists thought the conspiracy peeps were evil and unpure while the republicans were ok with them & the peeps themselves saw themselves as living the correct lifestyle.}

LATE BECAUSE WAS SICK
