         <description><![CDATA[<div>Malala Yousafzai was born in Mingora, Pakistan. She is best known for speaking out against the Taliban’s oppressiveness policies and their ban on the education of girls. Because of her activism, she became a target of the Taliban, who&nbsp;retaliated against her by shooting her on the way home from school. She survived the shooting and went on to become an internationally renowned education activist.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Malala loved school. Her father ran the girls' school in her town. Malala was ten years old when the Taliban took control of Swat. The Taliban banned things such as owning a television, playing music, and girls attending school. Women could only leave their home if accompanied by a male relative and wearing a burqa. The Taliban enforced punishments for those who did not follow their orders.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Malala spoke out publicly on behalf of girls and their right to an education. She and her father gained international attention which forced the Taliban to change the rule of girls going to school. Girls under the age of eleven could attend school. Malala continue attending school even though she was above that age. She continued speaking out which made her a target of the Taliban. In 2012, on her way home from school, a masked gunman boarded her bus and shot her.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Malala woke up 10 days later in a hospital in Birmingham, England, where the doctors and nurses informed her of the attack. After several weeks, her family joined her in Birmingham, where they began their new life.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

She decided to continue speaking and fighting until every girl could go to school. Her greatest achievement has been demonstrating that it is possible to stand up and speak out against what is wrong. Malala showed courage, knowing the risks involved with advocating for the education of girls, and took the opportunity to emerge as an education and women's rights activist.</div>]]></description>
