She and her father gained international attention which forced the Taliban to change the rule of girls going to school. Girls under the age of eleven could attend school. Malala continue attending school even though she was above that age. She continued speaking out which made her a target of the Taliban. In 2012, on her way home from school, a masked gunman boarded her bus and shot her. 

Malala woke up 10 days later in a hospital in Birmingham, England, where the doctors and nurses informed her of the attack. After several weeks, her family joined her in Birmingham, where they began their new life.

Malala stood up against the Taliban and fought for the right of education for girls, gaining international recognition and support in her efforts. Her greatest achievement has been demonstrating that it is possible to stand up and speak out against what is wrong.
