My name is Shianne Elliott. I’ve studied at CSUF as a double major for both Japanese and Mathematics. With this, I hope to teach either Mathematics or English as a second language depending on the specific needs of the school I’ll be teaching at.

My biggest hobbie is soap making. I love creating homemade soaps, lotions, conditioners, and other bath products. I’ve spent a lot of my free-time in the past few years learning new techniques and recipes for CP soap. I collect a variety of extracts and essential oils, and awesome ingredients to better my products. Although I do sell the things I make, it’s only a hobby and not a business.

Birchwood Soap

Here’s an example of a soap made with a technique called the Clyde Slide. This particular soap was featured by Brambleberry and the tutorial can be found at

https://www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/birchwood-oud-cold-process-soap/

It’s actually a very challenging technique. It requires the soap batter to be extremely thin. The problem with that is that many fragrance oils and heat can cause soap batter to thicken up to a pudding like state that is unpourable. It also thickens with time, so this has to be done fast!

This girl uses a PVC pipe to create a swirled moon at the center of a dark sky with stars and flowers at the top. I couldn’t imagine ever actually using this soap. It’s too pretty.

I had the opportunity to study abroad and spent 14 months living in Tokyo, Japan. While studying at Waseda University, I learned to squish into a packed train during rush hour, how to order food at a restaurant, where to find trashcans (surprisingly hard), and how to find niche shops for crafts and such.

I couldn’t recommend studying abroad enough. It’s was an amazing experience.
