Post 1 - The Mediterranean World during 33CE.

During 33CE, the Mediterranean World was most prominently ruled by the Roman Empire (753BC-476AD). Languages and ethnic backgrounds differed with regions but the most prominent groups of the time were the Jewish, Greek, Egyptian and Hebrew, whilst the most common languages were Latin and Greek. The main cities of the time included Rome, Ephesus and Antioch. The Roman Empire stretched across seas and therefore their most common travelling techniques were walking, horse, carts and by boat. During this time wealth and power were things that were greatly valued, so it can be devised that the rich lived a more luxurious life than that of the poor.

The conversion of Saul is a significant event in St Paul's life as it can be considered his turning point. Before this event, Saul was known for persecuting those who followed in the footsteps of Jesus, often ending up with them dead. So, when he was stopped on his way to Tarsus by the bright light and Jesus's voice, Saul became Paul and stopped the terrible things he did ultimately beginning his journey towards God.

For Paul's first missionary journey he was accompanied by Barnabus from Antioch all the way to Derbe. In order, they traveled to; Seleucia, Salamis and Paphos (Both in Cyprus), Perga, Pisidian Antioch, Iconium, Lystra and Derbe.
In Cyprus, they were accompanied by a man named John Mark on their journey to the island. At Paphos, a false prophet, (Bar-Jesus), attempted to turn the people against the two, but Paul temporarily blinded him, and the people marvelled at his miracles, beginning to believe in his words.
They then went to Perga where John Mark departed from the group to Paul's dismay.
In Pisidian Antioch, Paul and Barnabus preached about the Lord but to their disappointment, they were expelled from the city by the Jews.
In Iconium, the two were stoned by the Jews and Gentiles so they had to make an escape.
Paul then cured a man who had been crippled from birth in his feet in Lystra. Many believed that Paul and Barnabus were gods and were ready to make sacrifices for them, but Paul persuaded them not to by preaching about God. Though, this trip was then tainted by the Jews, who arrived from Antioch and Iconium, as they persuaded the crowd t stone the two. Paul then went to Derbe to preach.
In conclusion, the first journey was a major stepping stone for St Paul as he performed many miracles and faced many challenges that he overcame with the power of will and faith.

Post 4 - The Purpose of St Paul's Letters and their Main Messages

The purpose of St Paul's letters I believe is to spread the message of God, whilst he is still supposedly in jail, as he believes that his mission in life is to spread the words of Jesus. Saint Paul sees himself as a prophet for the Gentiles, and therefore believes he must send the word out. The message in many of his letters is about his conversion and what he believes God has requested of him. In conclusion, these particular letters talk about Saint Paul's devotion to God, his conversion and his belief that God has made him the messenger of Christianity, a prophet.

Post 5 - A Cultural Challenge Saint Paul faced which is revealed in his Epistles

St Paul faced many challenges during his time, but one significant cultural challenge he faced was circumcision and its importance to Christianity. This challenge arose due to the fact that he mainly preached to Gentiles who had no inclination to circumcise themselves and their offspring. St Paul stated that Christianity does not require a physical sacrifice but rather a spiritual sacrifice, one to God. He went on to say that circumcision or uncircumcision meant nothing, but obeying the commandments of God was everything. (1 Corinthians 7:19). This passage means that to Paul, a physical sacrifice meant nothing to God, only obeying his commandments mattered. In the end, St Paul stated that in this new religion, Christianity, you did not have to circumcise yourself to officially be a part of it.

Post 6 - Philippians 2:1-5, The Passage and its

For this task, we were to choose one of many of Paul's messages, and I chose Philippians 2:1-5, to interpret and then explain how this message could be applied to daily life. This passage to me expresses a belief that all should love as Jesus did and that all should be in the same mindset as Jesus. It goes on about love, compassion and humility, saying that those who follow Christianity should not show conceit nor selfish ambition. This passage can be applied to many aspects of life, but one that stands out for me to me is that you must always be humble when talking about what you have done or what you will do. That you must always praise others for what they have done and never put yourself above another.
