Collage is genre of artwork that allow an artist to assembly different materials together to make a whole. Collage can be an engaging way of depicting a narrative of a character’s perspective. The artist demonstrates how the character was experiencing a situation in a visual way. The viewer can put him/herself in the shoes of the character and experience how the character may have felt. The audience does not need to have the skills to read and/or write to know what the character is experiencing. Showing artwork is great for English Language Learners and/or students with disability.

My collage shows the perspective of Little Mo. Little Mo was a kind young slave boy who met a Native American girl, Martha Tom from the Choctaw tribe. Martha Tom led him and his family to freedom from slavery because she showed Little Mo a secret way to cross the Bok Chitto river to the Native American land. The collage shows the hardship of manual labor that the slaves experience, however, it also shows the young boys hope for the future of his family.
