It means to be ok with making mistakes, failing but getting back up and trying again. It means being ok with not knowing everything but continuing to try anyway. It means knowing that we can all do hard things even if we can't do them YET it doesn't mean that we won't ever be able to do it. A growth mindset is the ability to believe that you can do all things with hard work and effort.

As educators, it is our job to believe in every student's potential. It is our job to instill that same belief within our students. We must foster a supportive environment for our students and teach them that anything is possible with the right mindset. If we don't show them the importance in dedication and perseverance, we're limiting their achievement level...and that is not cool at all. Our students need to envision their own potential and understand that there is value in learning from mistakes and always room to improve.

One of the best ways to learn is by working hard and being okay if, and when, you make mistakes, that’s part of the learning process! We learn from our mistakes and use them to guide us as we build resilience and persistence as life long learners!

Also, we need to understand mistakes and struggles are something to celebrate because it makes students grow! Don’t shy away from creating challenging content, it is what our students need! As a mentor, you can show your mentees that everyone has a growth mindset. Even as a veteran teacher, we are still working hard and challenging ourselves to be better! It is an educator’s role to meet students with where they are at and raise them to the next level of expectations through collaborative goal setting!

Intelligence and learning is taught and can grow over time. In fact, our brains actually physically change as we work hard and learn more. Mistakes help us learn and should be celebrated. Praising effort over ability is one way to foster a growth mindset in others. Having a growth mindset means you believe you can learn, grow, and change how smart you are!

Having a growth mindset in my work as a teacher and mentor is important because I hold the power to foster a growth mindset in my students. By having a growth mindset myself, I am modeling for my students that human beings make mistakes, learn, grow, and change. If they see me having a growth mindset and using growth mindset words, they will likely adopt that same language and attitude. Students having a growth mindset is important because they will be more likely to take academic risks and challenge themselves. They will embrace mistakes and understand that their brain physically changes when they put in effort towards something. They will give up less and be more motivated to take on a challenge. They will take their growth mindset into the rest of their school career and life and will be more successful because of it!

After taking this survey again, I think that my results were very similar. I noticed that I was more understanding of the questions the second time through and could have answered them "dishonestly" to try to get a perfect score. That is what I needed to work on as a suggestion, as I need to stop trying to look at the end product. That will always be a tough battle as I coach and I focus on the process, but competition is competition. Again, I scored well as a Growth Mindset on both surveys but I see it as a process vs. end result.

I am very fortunate that my district has been working with growth mindset for the past few years. As a teacher, I think it helps that I am a coach and deal with so many athletes that overshoot goals and "fail" in their eyes but I get to help them make new, realistic goals and walk them through the process of "practice makes opportunities for later". Growth Mindset is a basis to releasing the stress of the end product and focusing on the journey and celebrating every victory. Without the small victories, there will only be one winner. I think back to what I say to my HS wrestlers, "there is only going to be one state champion, is that you, or where will your work and dedication bring you"?

Growth Mindset is VERY important as teaching PE, we have gone away with skills tests and are now grading on only participation based on National Standards. We give our kids choice in participation levels by allowing them to choose different activities building skills needed for the activities we are doing. If I were the teacher to only focus on the end product, vs. the process, and didn't celebrate the steps kids make, I would consider myself, way past time to retire. Having a growth mindset, and really focusing on it this past 2 years has really helped build relationships and a better community in my gymnasium so that my students know they have a safe place to try, grow and feel connected without fear of failure.

Yes, all students can learn!

Getting to know your students, building relationships and letting them know you are there for them is a major factor in their education. We are whom our students look up to so it is important that we model what a growth mindset looks like. We need to show them what making mistakes looks like and how we can grow and learn from making those mistakes. We need to demonstrate what it means to preserve and work through things that are hard. When we fall down, we show them what it is like to get back up and try again. We teach, we model, and we set the example! I believe that we can grow our growth mindsets together!

It is critical that we model different strategies in the classroom, so students will pick up on them. We our role models for our students, so if they see us make a mistake and we can learn and grow from it. Our students will then know that it is okay to do the same and learn that is how we learn- we make mistakes. Showing our students that we have a growth mindset when it comes to challenges in the classroom will model to them that we need to try out new challenges and learn from them.

Yes, I do believe that all students can learn! However, all students learn differently and they all learn at different paces. As an educator it is important to embrace the diversity in the classroom and rise up to the challenge to teach all of our students, even the ones that believe that they can not do it. Our job is to teach and model to them that they can learn and that they can do it! We need to be aware of the words that we use with our students so we can instill a growth mindset. ALL STUDENTS CAN LEARN!

There are so many new strategies that I could implement in my classroom- so I am just going to highlight a few big takeaways! I will implement modeling in my classroom showing students that it is okay to fail and try again and it is okay to make mistakes because that is how we learn. I want to implement and use words/phrases that will help them believe that they can do something. I am going to continue to use wait time to allow a chance for all students to think and be able to answer the question. I want to teach my students about the brain and how it works and how it can change!

I also want to use more resources like books and videos about having a growth mindset to help students better understand what it means. Just because you struggle with something now doesn't mean you will never succeed it means you haven't YET and when you do it will be all the better because of what you gained throughout the whole process! Lastly growth mindset is the ability to think through problems and find solutions, there may not always be just one right way or answer and you have the ability to know this and look at problems through different lenses to find the best solution for you!

It is very important for us to have a growth mindset for many reasons. It is our job to believe in our students so that they feel valuable and can deal with some of the hardships that they will face in school and in life. Another very important reason is that our students look up to us and are watching what we say and do. If we model a growth mindset to our students then they are much more likely to see the value in it and try to achieve this on their own.

It is inevitable that students will experience challenges and failures, so it's important that we start equipping students with skills and strategies to help support them through those trying times. They will experience these both inside and outside of class, so the sooner we can help them with this life skill... the better!

I am unsure how I am going to implement this in PE but I will figure out a way. If not PE, once I start teaching Health I will 100% be using this teaching strategy!

Having a growth mindset as a teacher is important because we need to be a model for our students. Our students see every move we make so they will watch us learn from our mistakes and use positive self-talk. We will use words of affirmation to encourage our students as well. We also need to have a growth mindset because many of our lessons may not go the way we want them to but we need to bounce back and do the best we can to reflect and improve.
