Essay
The essay begins with talking about the clergy being corrupted when it was suppose to be filled with people following morales. The writer talks about Friar being corrupted by greed, a snob, and acts in unchristian ways, he also doesn’t act how most in the clergy would. He seems to feel that he’s above being a clergy and the things they follow. The Friar has taken advantage of being in the clergy to sell divine influence. Overall the Friar is described as a snob, unchristian, and thinks of himself as higher than those around him, it’s no wonder that he was having issues with the other memebers of the group.

This is simple and explains the whole tale of the Friar, the use of ones power to control others and exploit them for money. People of the church are expected to be trustworthy and religious believing in a God and opposing the evil. In this case the summoner was suppose to be a part of the clergy but he went against everything that the church would stand for, blackmailing people, having prostitutes as spies, and befriending a demon to help lie and steal from others. The summoner used the secrets he learned from his women to blackmail the men they met with and have them come in and pay him to make it go away or he would charge people with fake charges and have them pay him so they charges were gone. The summoner saw his position as a way to make more money no matter the affect on others.
