Good morning,
My name is Jose Gonzalez, currently I work full time as a Border Patrol Agent, and I have 51 credit hours in the Mental Health Counseling program.

I just wanted to take a quick moment to share my thoughts on Dr. Shannon McFarlin. I have been in Dr. McFarlin's classes a couple of times within the program. It was a great pleasure to meet her during Residency one. Dr. McFarlin is authentic, transparent, enthusiastic, and a definite mainstay to Lamar University. Dr. McFarlin is a wealth of knowledge to any program and many of the learnings I carry with me until this day. Thank you Dr. McFarlin 🙏.

Dr. McFarlin is such an inspiration to me. I can only pray she touches the lives of other young students at a school I am proud to say I have graduated several times from. I have asked that she also be the Professor to hand me my diploma in December 2023 because of her desire to mentor with such passion. Having Dr. McFarlin as my professor for Residency 1 and 2 has greatly enhanced my counseling skills. She is an exceptional individual who has consistently provided valuable guidance and support for my forthcoming practicum and internships. Tenure Committee and everyone else listen up! Dr. McFarlin is the reason that I have completed my program with LU. My first semester here was not difficult but it was not want I expected it to be. However, Residency 1 and 2 with Dr. McFarlin and every interaction with her afterwards renewed my trust and faith in this program. When in doubt, ask Dr. McFarlin! She taught me how to show myself grace and that it was imperative to be the counselors that I want to be. She allowed for me to grown within this program and I will be forever grateful for her guidance. Plus she has a killer personality...win win! I cannot think of anyone else that deserves this more than Dr. McFarlin and I hope you all feel the same! Dr. McFarlin thank you for everything that you have done for us during our time here and Lamar is lucky to have you...hopefully for forever! Best of luck!
