During secondary school I wasn't given the opportunity to do work experience. So when I had left school I promoted myself on social media and was willing to take photo shoots of anyone interested. This gave me the opportunity to experience what I like doing as well as having an idea of what a photographer does. I've also volunteered as a side photographer at a wedding for the experience and to get a taste of what wedding photographers do I also got to speak to the wedding photographers at the event which was interesting.
Over the last academic year I've had one job being a waitress at Blue Café which was external(self directed). This meant I had to, make sure all customers were satisfied, make sure everything was clean (including walls, windows, doors, tables etc), organise tables, multitask with different orders, take on board what customers thought of the café as I was the main waitress, I also had the responsibility of looking after the café whilst my boss was absent. This job helped me gain many skills such as, building my confidence by chatting to the customers and taking orders, also gave me responsibilities and I learnt instead of waiting to be told what to that I should just get up and do what clearly needed to be done, it helped me gain excellent time management skills as I had to make sure I was in on time and also I had to ensure customers were brought their food in a short space of time, it enabled me to stay focused at all times as I had to recognise when people had finished or if customers needed anything and also when tables were clean, this job helped me gain people skills most of all because I had to make customers feel welcome and so the only way of doing so was engaging with them and making conversation.
