Adolescents tend to receive criticism for their lack of commitment to the communities where they live.  There are numerous examples of adolescents who influence their community due to their desire to make a difference.  Schools and communities are able to display the altruistic nature of youth by facilitating opportunities for adolescents to affect their communities and world through designing and implementing service projects.  

The focus of this research is to study the change in high school students in terms of their commitment to altruism when they participate in the design and facilitation of service projects in their community.  In preparation, high school students learned about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and designed projects that targeted these goals in their local community.

Universal, inclusive and indivisible, the Agenda calls for action by all countries to improve the lives of people everywhere.
In 2015, countries adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Service Learning: a process of involving students in community service activities combined with facilitated means for applying the experience to their academic and personal development.
