In Peru, the holiday season kicks off with something called Misa de Gallo which is a Rooster's Mass, which is a midnight mass held on Christmas Eve (24th dec) instead of the 25th. Families gather together to attend the mass and then enjoy a feast afterward.

One unique tradition in Peru is the chocolatada where hot chocolate and a sweet bread filled with dried fruits and nuts, are shared with family, friends and people in need. People also decorate their homes and streets with colorful lights and nativity scenes as it is a religious country.
