This is quite important for university study, as we will have very long lecture in the university, we need to take notes quickly to write those key points, so that skill is very important. Mary YU

In the process of applying to college, inevitably there will be academic requirements. Such as TOEFL scores, the SAT scores and classification of IB forecasts. After the TOEFL and IGCSE study, we can know that, in terms of speaking and listening, we have weaknesses. However, AO4 Speaking can help us to get progress in these areas. Besides, the role of the relevant AO3. It can make our study skills improved, and enables us to meet the interviewer's requirement about our university intersection ability, innovation ability and learning ability. To put it into a nutshell, AOs plays an important role in our preparation for the college applications. Jessica He

As Mary said, speaking skills are very significant in college interviews because candidates need to respond to the interviewers' questions and keep the conversation going. Also, in tests like TOEFL we need to use our speaking skills to get high marks. Speaking skills are also used in our college life later.

We researched the college application process and found that the basic thing it requires is standardized tests like SAT or ACT. We need a wide range of skills like AO4 reading skillls. SAT articles and TOEFL reading passages both require us to understand ideas, opinions and attitudes which are essential for answering questions. In addition, the R1 AO1 reading skill(identify and select relevant information) is also very important because tests like IGCSE have short answers. Jasmine He

I fully agree with what Jessica has said. AO3 skills are also essential skills to use apart from AO4 speaking skills. AO3 mainly includes finding useful information, ideas and understanding attitudes. We need to use them in standardized tests as well as college interviews and application essays. They can help us gain a better understanding of the content of articles and can thus make us gain better results.

AO2 writing can help us write a ‘describe, evaluate and compare’ essay. It really related to our college application. Essays are student's opportunities to reveal their best qualities and to show an admission committee what makes them stand out from other applicants. It is considerably important for the admission committee to choose academically qualified students. Hence, AO2 wrting really helps us a lot. Angela Mao

There's no doubt that reading skills are necessary during college application. At least, I think we should be able to understand requirements from different colleges. Like R4, we should understand what is implied but not directly stated. Some key requirements need our readinding skills to discover, and it makes me feel like reading ability is the most important ability. Also, interviews are required by most of the college. Thus, having impressive communicating skills is vital as well. Your interaction with interviewers and the way you express yourselves are all related to S3, S4 and S5. They show how well you can chat and be with a stranger, it is meaningful and useful. Eason Zhang

After reading the assessment objective L4, I find listening skills are quite important during college application process. Just like the objective of L4, we need to be able to understand what is implied. For example, with this skill, we can do a great job in one of the TOEFL listening tasks, which is often asked in this format 'what did the speaker imply when he / she said this?' Also, in iGCSE listening exams, we can do better in the matching task, which offers you seven sentences and six speakers. Our job is to summarise and even find the implication of the speakers and choose the correct sentence. Therefore, AO L4 is really important in college application process. -Michelle Du

For AO3 and AO4 for reading, we need show understanding of the connections between points and what is implied but not directly stated. Definitely these requirements enable us to find out what the author, examiner, or even college admission officer really would like to express, so that we can give a satisfying answer. Moreover, these 2 AOs can help us massively in TOEFL, IELTS, etc. on the aspect of reading. These standardized tests impact much on college application process. In addition, no one wants to know less than admissions about the recommodation letter his/her teacher writes.

For AO3, 4, 5 for speaking, basic grammar and pronouciation skills are required. Also it suggests we engage in a conversation and contribute effectively to help move the conversation forward. During the interview, our language leaves a deep impression to the interviewer. And effective conversation makes the interview fluent and favored. Apart from interviews, the AOs are able to improve our speaking section in standardized test as well.

Jay Yu
