I was in high school and running late one morning. When I saw the train in the distance, I panicked. The stop was three streets away, so I took off running like a madman, determined not to miss it. I was watching out for cars, but it was a close call—I nearly got hit.

Looking back, I don’t even know if it was worth it. I made it to the train, but I was mentally shaken. That moment scared me for life, and it made me realize how one split-second decision could have ended everything.
