Emails provide a very formal medium for communication and are used in the business and professional world. Texting is very casual and informal for any such type of communication like WhatsApp or Instagram or Snapchat. Emails are like proofs and witnesses and that's why they are used in schools and institutions as well.
Groups and social media apps would be very inconvenient to use for professional purposes and would be very informal.
