One example of a conflict of Man vs Man is the relationship between Mark Fossie and Mary Anne. Their relationship started and a romantic relationship but gradually changed into effectively strangers. She originally flew over to vietnam to spend time with her boyfriend but overtime she grew to be more fond of the war itself rather then her boyfriend, she started to treat her boyfriend as a stranger and spend more time fighting then with him.

  • The first major event to happen in the story was when Mark Fossies girlfriend, Mary Anne, showed up to the war in Vietnam. This event was important because the entire story revolved around her showing up there.

  • The second major event was when Mary Anne left in the middle of the night to go on ambush with the Green Berets, this event was relevant because it was when she started to change, enjoy, and grow fond of the war.

  • The final major event is when Mary Anne went crazy and decided to leave everyone, even her boyfriend, to go fight with the Greenies. Originally, she went to Vietnam to be with her boyfriend, but overtime she changed and grew fond of the war and ultimately decided to leave in order to go fight.

She was marked as missing, there was no confirmation she was dead or alive but either way Fossie knew she wouldn't be coming back. She had chose to fight in the war and even if she was still alive, which was unlikely, she would still choose to fight in the war and wouldn't be coming back to Fossie anytime soon and he knew that.
