I'm not in Dr. Isabela's science class anymore, but I just discovered this padlet. I'm Anika Jha and I joined First Avenue Middle School in the middle of the year in 8th grade, so as the new kid I was only here for the heredity and genetics chapter. I wanted to know your thoughts about genetic engineering. I think it's very debatable and ethically concerning, especially considering the fact that this field insinuates being able to pick the gender and race of your baby. Of course, in the ancient times, this would be a terrible idea to introduce to society as girls would inevitably be killed off, and races would be limited to caucasian/white. The main issue is that these mindsets still exist in our world no matter how much we progress, making it dangerous to introduce the concept even now. What genetic engineering could do well is prevent disabilities and save many lives. It could also let parents ensure that their child's characteristics are an even 50/50 match. What do you guys think about genetic engineering?
