Minerals are a vital resource to humanity other than water, trees and such. Minerals like aluminum, iron, clay, salt and many other metals are used everyday by humans. There are metallic minerals like iron and gold. some characteristics of metals are they are conductive, shiny and opaque. There are also non metal minerals. Non metal minerals are generally good insulators, have shiny or dull surfaces and are able to allow light to pass through.

Many metals like gold and iron have come from numerous meteorites and other space debris that have collided with the earth millions of years ago. Many of these ores like iron formed from chemical reactions with oxygen from the environment. Iron is pretty much used for everything. It’s used as one of the metals in my laptop, it’s in the steel used in my medieval armor and it’s the metal used for my car(despite the fact I can’t drive). There are many other things iron is used for but this tangent would be longer than the Bible. A bit of a off topic tangent but my grandparents use gold to make jewelry In fact they’ve made me a bracelet and a “pimp” ring.

Minerals are not just metal. There are some minerals like evaporites which are basically salt deposits that come from evaporated seawater. There are also minerals like clay that are used for pottery for plates, cups and pots. Not to mention gemstones. Gemstones are crystal ores like diamonds, sapphire, emeralds and many many more. They’re prized for their beauty and their rarity. Unfortunately a lot of gemstones are associated with sad chicks who believe rocks can give off some sort of sad emotion.

That being said, minerals are unfortunately increasing in demand due to our ever growing population. So the current challenge with mining for minerals is obtaining them with minimal cost. We can recycle metals in order to help in many things like save energy and conserve natural resources.
